Ray Fisher and Brandon James are expected to compete for the Colts’ returner job.
Fisher was a seventh-round pick out of Indiana and James went undrafted from Florida. The Colts are annually below average on kick returns, and Fisher averaged 37.4 yards per return as a senior. James, a speedster, goes just 5'7/176. They’ll both have to beat out Samuel Giguere.
  • IND Wide Receiver
    Colts waived WR/KR Brandon James.
James lasted three weeks on the Colts’ roster, highlighted by a four-catch performance in Week 10. The Colts have opted to go forward with Taj Smith as the fifth receiver after James managed just 16.7 yards on nine kickoff returns Sunday.
  • IND Wide Receiver
Brandon James caught four passes for 36 yards against the Bengals in Week 10.
Chris Brooks was invisible while James saw eight targets out wide with Reggie Wayne moving to the slot. James’ Week 11 role will depend on the health of Austin Collie and Blair White.
  • IND Wide Receiver
Colts waived RB/KR Brandon James and WR Sam Giguere.
It looks like Devin Moore has beaten them both out for the kickoff specialist job. James was a star returner at Florida for four seasons, but Moore’s numbers were superior in limited exhibition action. Giguere’s best bet is to return to Canada to carve out a long career in the CFL.
  • IND Wide Receiver
Brandon James or Chris Brooks will serve as the No. 3 receiver Sunday with Austin Collie (concussion) and Blair White (shoulder) out.
It remains unclear which of these practice squad callups will get more reps. They will likely end up rotating, so fantasy owners would have to be extremely hard pressed to even consider using either one of these middling prospects. The main beneficiary here figures to be tight end Jacob Tamme, who will be targeted heavily over the middle and out of the slot.
  • IND Wide Receiver
Updating a previous item, the Colts have listed practice squad call-up Brandon James as a wide receiver.
James mostly played tailback and kick returner at Florida, but apparently will be Blair White’s backup in the slot until Austin Collie (concussion) gets back. James got the call-up over fellow undrafted rookie Chris Brooks. At 5'7/182, James won’t make much noise as the Colts’ fill-in No. 4 receiver.
  • IND Wide Receiver
Colts signed RB/KR Brandon James from their practice squad.
A homeless man’s Darren Sproles, the 5-foot-7, 185-pound James will provide depth behind Donald Brown and Javarris James. It’s another indication that Joseph Addai (shoulder) and Mike Hart (ankle) are both out for Week 10.
  • IND Wide Receiver
    Colts waived WR Chris Brooks.
Brooks was activated Sunday morning but saw little playing time behind No. 3 receiver Brandon James. His release is perhaps an indication that the Colts expect to have either Austin Collie (concussion) or Blair White (shoulder) back for Week 11. James may be sent back to the bench against the Patriots.
  • IND Wide Receiver
Colts RB/KR Brandon James fumbled a punt in his audition for the return job Thursday night.
James not only fumbled, but the Packers also recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown. Ray Fisher returned one kickoff for 58 yards, likely earning a more extensive look next week. Devin Moore had taken the early lead in the race for both kickoffs and punts, but he was held out of the game with an undisclosed injury.
  • NYG Wide Receiver
Colts WR Sam Giguere is listed as the first-team kickoff returner on the Colts’ unofficial training camp depth chart.
He’ll get a run for his money from undrafted rookie Brandon James, who is second on the depth cart for kickoff returns and first on the depth chart for punts.
