Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Bradley Chubb (PUP/knee) will not be activated for the 2024 season.
His three-week window expires later this week. McDaniel said that Chubb wasn’t ready to “be the player he expects” after working on his torn ACL, patellar tendon, and meniscus for three weeks. Chubb is due a $29.3 million cap number in 2025 and could be a potential target for a post-June 1 cut if the Dolphins are looking to free up cap space. Releasing him normally would save the Dolphins just $1.9 million.

Dolphins LB Bradley Chubb (knee) is questionable for Week 15 against the Texans.
Chubb practiced in a limited capacity all week. If active, expect the Dolphins to keep the veteran pass rusher on a snap count. Chubb is impressively returning from a multi-tissue knee injury that probably could have been a career-ender in some cases.

Bradley Chubb told reporters he tore his ACL, patellar tendon and meniscus in his 2023 season-ending knee injury.
Chubb’s delayed return now makes a lot of sense. This is significantly more complex than a clean ACL tear. Whether Chubb suits up soon remains to be seen but he is likely to be eased into action upon his return. The 6-7 Dolphins are currently on the playoff bubble, ranking ninth in the AFC playoff picture.

Dolphins designated Bradley Chubb (knee) to return from the PUP list.
He will practice this week, per Mike McDaniel. Ditto Cameron Goode. Chubb tore his ACL in Week 17 of the 2023 season and McDaniel has previously referred to this injury as “an ACL plus” because of additional damage. It would be a nice boost to the fading Dolphins hopes if Chubb could come in and be the 2023 version of himself right away. A more likely outcome is that he takes some time to return to form. It’s good to see him on the practice field at all after nearly a full calendar year away.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said DE Bradley Chubb (knee)'s return is “not on my immediate horizon.”
Chubb is not ready to practice yet and McDaniel positioned the injury as “an ACL plus,” which could be a sign that we shouldn’t expect Chubb back this year. He suffered the torn ACL (and possibly the plus) last New Year’s Eve. It looks like Chubb is still a ways from returning to the practice field as he rehabs the injury.

Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver said there is no timetable for Bradley Chubb’s (knee).
Cubb suffered a Grade 3 ACL tear last December and has been working his way back from the injury ever since. The timing and severity of the injury have long made his 2024 outlook hard to predict, but Weaver doesn’t sound like a coach expecting to see Chubb anytime soon. Speaking Friday, Weaver said, “Chubb is in all of our meetings — gives me the feel we will see him at some point this year.” Chubb is eligible to come off the PUP list in Week 5, but with a Week 6 bye on tap, it’s possible the Dolphins give him a few extra weeks to recover before entertaining the possibility of a return.

Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel said Bradley Chubb (knee) will open the season on the reserve/PUP list.
Chubb will be required to miss the first four games of the season as he continues to recover from a torn ACL he suffered on December 31. The veteran pass-rusher totaled 74 tackles and 11 sacks for the Dolphins last season, turning in his best year since his 2018 rookie campaign. We’ll see if his absence stretches beyond the minimum, but the earliest he can return will be Week 5 against the Patriots. In addition to Chubb, the Dolphins are also placing LB Cam Goode on the reserve/PUP list.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Dolphins have moved EDGE rushers Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips to the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
Chubb suffered a Grade 3 ACL tear on December 31st, 2023, just five weeks after Phillips ruptured his right Achilles tendon. Both players face roughly nine-to-twelve-month return-to-play timelines, although Chubb’s rehabilitation process is less involved than Phillips’, who must slowly build up his repaired tendon’s elasticity. If both players remain on the PUP list through training camp, they will be eligible for the regular season’s active PUP list, where they will then remain for at least four games.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports an MRI confirmed a torn ACL for Dolphins EDGE Bradley Chubb, ending his season.
Chubb’s first full season with the Dolphins comes to an end with this injury. The star pass rusher was in the midst of a career year, totaling 74 tackles and 11 sacks — just one sack short of his career-high. The Dolphins will now look to supplement his loss as their pass rush continues to be decimated by injuries late in the season. The Jets lost Jaelan Phillips, who had 6.5 sacks to a torn Achilles earlier this year, leaving the Dolphins without two players who have accounted for 33 percent of their sacks this season.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the Dolphins fear Bradley Chubb suffered a torn ACL in the team’s Week 17 loss to the Ravens.
This was the concern for Chubb from the start. The veteran pass rusher fell to the ground with a non-contact injury and was in obvious pain while being assisted to the cart. Tests will likely confirm the worst for Chubb, which will end his season and leave the Dolphins without their best pass rusher. We’ll likely know more about his situation later in the day.
