Texans selected Notre Dame OT Blake Fisher with the No. 59 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Blake Fisher (6'6/310) was a four-star OT and the top player out of Indiana in the 2021 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. Fisher’s college career started as a bit of a flashbang. He began as the heir apparent to Liam Eichenberg as a freshman in South Bend, but was replaced by fellow Freshman OT Joe Alt when his season was cut short to a knee injury. Fisher would start his next two seasons (25 games) at Right Tackle, allowing only nine sacks and six QB hits over that period. The native of Avon, Indiana has NFL-ready size with the smooth movements that could see him starting as early as he did for Notre Dame. His weight is evenly distributed and he actually looks shorter than his measurements. He was asked to play more square to the line than is standard in the NFL, which has led to some imbalance as he finds himself on the ground more often than one would like. However, he is fluid in moving both horizontal and backwards. When he is able to latch onto a defender, he has the grip strength to maintain his block and the competitive attitude to finish. Fisher is likely limited to only the right side after two years of performing there at a high level, but a team can rest easy that Fisher’s athleticism (80th percentile relative athletic score), paired with his ability to sustain blocks, should translate into early playing time with room to develop further.
