Dolphins signed tackle Anthony Alabi, a fifth-round pick, to a four-year contract.
Alabi will be a top reserve tackle for the Dolphins. If needed, he could play guard as well.
  • Dolphins T Anthony Alabi (arthroscopic knee surgery) will resume running in 10-15 days and will be ready for training camp.
There was belief that Alabi would battle to this year, but the ‘Fins seem set with L.J. Shelton at right tackle and Vernon Carey protecting the blind side.
  • Chiefs claimed T Anthony Alabi off waivers from the Dolphins.
Alabi (6'5/315) wasn’t ready to beat out LT Vernon Carey in Miami last year, but was a favorite of Nick Saban’s. He comes quite cheaply as a tackle project and is worth a look by a talent starved organization.
  • Dolphins waived OTs Anthony Alabi and Marion Dukes, and DTs Marquay Love and Anthony Bryant.
Alabi has the best shot to be claimed off waivers, as he has the ability to be a formidable backup left tackle. He’d only cost $520,000. Love and Dukes are borderline NFL players. Bryant is huge but has never made an impact.
  • KC Linebacker
Chiefs waived LB E.J. Kuale, LB Steve Octavien, S Khayyam Burns, and OT Anthony Alabi.
Kuale couldn’t start in college but was right in the mix for a roster spot with the Chiefs, which tells you something about their roster.
  • TB Defensive Lineman
Bucs signed DT Dre Moore, OT Julius Wilson, CB Kyle Arrington, DB Greg Fassitt, DL Louis Holmes, OT Anthony Alabi, K Shane Andrus, S Jamall Johnson, and TE Jason Pociask to reserve/future contracts.
Moore is the most notable name here. Tampa’s fourth-round pick in 2008, he reported to the team overweight and spent his first year on the practice squad. Andrus will be a “camp leg” behind Matt Bryant. Pociask is a blocker.
  • Dolphins T Anthony Alabi (knee), CB Travis Daniels (right ankle), and DE David Bowens (left ankle) all had surgeries Friday.
In his post-Dolphins interview in Alabama, Nick Saban praised Alabi as a future star. Daniels fit Saban’s system perfectly, and could be Miami’s best young cornerback on the roster.
  • MIA Tackle
Miami is considering moving Vernon Carey to left tackle this season.
Carey played right tackle last year but the ‘Fins are strapped for options on the blind side with Damion McIntosh now in Kansas City. L.J. Shelton and inexperienced Anthony Alabi are their other internal candidates.
  • LAC Tackle
The Dolphins will move L.J. Shelton to right tackle this season.
Shelton graded out poorly at left tackle in 2006, then finished at right guard. But the new coaching staff wants its guards to be more mobile, presumably to pull. Shelton will compete with Anthony Alabi to start.
  • Dolphins T Anthony Alabi recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery.
The starting right tackle’s surgery removed “loose bodies and debride(d) a chondral lesion in his right knee.” Nose tackle Keith Traylor, who’s also recovering from knee surgery, had his ankle cleaned out.
