Adams

Andrews was beaten on the second touchdown grab by Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz and came down awkwardly on his right knee. He would stay down in the end zone only to be carted to the locker room with an apparent right knee injury.

Adams began his career with the Giants before spending the last four seasons with the Bucs. He earned a few starts for Tampa last year, but he has primarily been a contributor on special teams over the last two seasons. That will likely be his role in New York if he cracks the 53-man roster.

The Eagles now have just three running backs on their roster: Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, and Kenny Gainwell. The Eagles also waived/released DB Andrew Adams, OT Le’Raven Clark, DL Hassan Ridgeway, TE Richard Rodgers, DB Kevon Seymour, DB Grayland Arnold, OG Kayode Awosika, WR Travis Fulgham, WR John Hightower, RB Jason Huntley, DB Craig James, DL Matt Leo, OG Iosua Opeta, WR Andre Patton, C Ross Pierschbacher, DB Elijah Riley, S JaCoby Stevens, and DL Raequan Williams.

Adams, 28, has made 32 career starts in five seasons with the Giants and Buccaneers, most recently contributing on special teams in Tampa Bay’s domination of Kansas City in the Super Bowl. He’s purely a depth signing for Philadelphia.

Tampa Bay signed Adams last season after the Lions released him following the final week of preseason. He recorded one interception and three PBUs over 14 games (11 starts). Adams was with the Bucs in 2018 and led the team with four interceptions.

Adams previously led Tampa Bay with four interceptions over 13 appearances last year before being picked up by the Lions in March (and released in August). He’ll likely start as early as Thursday in place of S Justin Evans, who’s expected to miss at least eight weeks on injured reserve.

Despite a strong summer, Adams could probably see the writing on the wall after playing deep into Thursday night’s preseason finale at Cleveland. The former UConn Husky logged a team-high four interceptions over 13 appearances including four starts for the Bucs last season. He should land on his feet.

A restricted free agent, Adams was not tendered an offer by the Bucs. A safety by trade, Adams played a few snaps in the slot last season. He managed to pick off four passes on just 368 snaps. The Lions had been a man down at safety since cutting Glover Quin. Perhaps Adams will get to compete for a legitimate role on defense.

Adams has played well when given the opportunity throughout his three-year career including intercepting four passes with the Bucs last season, but he has yet to find a long-term home. After cutting Glover Quin, the Lions could use some help at safety.

The UConn alum logged a team-high four interceptions last year despite seeing only 368 defensive snaps. Despite showing a nose for the ball and earning PFF’s No. 25 coverage grade among safeties last season, the Bucs obviously didn’t feel Adams was worth his $2.05 million tender. Perhaps Tampa Bay would consider bringing him back at a lower cost.
