Patriots selected Michigan State CB Ameer Speed with the No. 214 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Speed ran a 4.33 40-yard dash at Michigan State’s Pro Day per Dane Brugler’s The Beast. He was a special teams-first player for most of his career before transferring to Michigan State as he was stuck on Georgia’s depth chart. His 6-foot-3, 210-pound frame projects well outside, but he’ll be a project and special-teamer for Belichick’s boys rather than someone they’re counting on big snaps from in 2023.

Former Georgia senior CB Ameer Speed has committed to Michigan State.
Speed (6'3/211) should provide immediate assistance to a Michigan State pass defense that ranked dead last in passing yards allowed per game (325.1). This past season at Georgia, Speed was named one of Georgia’s starting cornerbacks, which lasted for only three games before he lost his starting gig to five-star cornerback Kelee Ring. In the team’s playoff game against Michigan, Speed played on just five snaps in Georgia’s playoff game against Michigan, but failed to record a defensive snap in the national championship against Alabama. Prior to Mel Tucker joining Michigan State, Speed played under Tucker at Georgia.

Georgia senior CB Ameer Speed has entered the transfer portal.
Speed (6'3/211) got the starting nod as Georgia’s defensive back to open the 2021 season, only to be relegated to backup duty behind five-star defensive back Kelee Ringo. Speed was announced as the team’s starting cornerback in the team’s national championship game against Alabama, but did not log a snap in the game according to Pro Football Focus. Now, looking to use his final year of eligibility, Speed is hitting the transfer portal where he will likely look to find a starting role in 2022. Speed has totaled just 336 defensive snaps since joining the Bulldogs in 2017.

Georgia will start fifth-year senior CB Ameer Speed over Kelee Ringo for the National Championship game.
Speed (6'3"/211) started the first three games for Georgia, but was replaced by redshirt freshman and five-star recruit Kelee Ringo for the next 11 games. It seems Georgia will be going back to Speed for now. Whether this is symbolic thing or not remains to be seen. Update: Ringo was the first team corner in warmups.

The Bulldogs scored his pledge over Virginia Tech, Michigan State and North Carolina. The 6-foot-3 Speed is a rangy corner rated as the No. 36 prospect at his position.
