So much for his battle with Rex Grossman. Brink’s best shot to make a roster was in the Houston offense he was familiar with. He should clear waivers.

The site confirms that Grossman is in a battle with Alex Brink just to make the team as a third-stringer behind Matt Schaub and Dan Orlovsky. There’s reason to believe that Brink is the Texans’ third most accurate quarterback.

Brink was just a camp arm while Rex Grossman was out. Brink, the Texans’ seventh-round pick in April, is a prime candidate for the practice squad. Houston will open with two QBs on its roster; Sage Rosenfels and Matt Schaub. Coley had 15 tackles in the exhibition finale.

The accurate Washington State product must have impressed in offseason workouts for the Texans to release Quinn Gray so early in the offseason. Brink and Shane Boyd are competing for Houston’s third quarterback job, although Brink could be placed on the practice squad.

Over Paul Smith (Tulsa) and Nick Hill (Southern Illinois). Brink is another small-armed yet accurate and mobile signal caller who played in a favorable system. He’ll compete with Quinn Gray to be Houston’s third-stringer.
