Jordan Poole accounted for three points (1-of-9 FGs, 1-of-1 FTs), two assists, and two blocked shots in 29 minutes in Wednesday’s loss to Toronto.

The good news for Poole managers is that he recorded two blocked shots, the first time he’s met or exceeded that number since December 26 (two vs. Chicago). Unfortunately, everything else went wrong in the Wizards’ blowout loss at home. Poole missed all five of his 3-point attempts, and the three points were a season-low. He’ll look to bounce back when the Wizards host the Lakers on Wednesday.

Jonas Valanciunas shot 1-of-4 from the field and 4-of-4 from the foul line in Wednesday’s loss to the Raptors, amassing six points, 11 rebounds, and one assist in 23 minutes.

Valanciunas started Wednesday’s game for Alexandre Sarr, who was held out with a sprained left ankle. The veteran center only attempted four shots, a surprising development, given Washington’s lack of options at the five. With the Wizards hosting the Lakers on Wednesday, Valanciunas may get another start. And with Anthony Davis injured, this would be a good opportunity for JV to show what he can do against one of the teams rumored to be seeking another big ahead of the February 6 trade deadline.

Kyshawn George logged 22 minutes in Wednesday’s loss to Toronto, finishing with 10 points (4-of-10 FGs), one rebound, three assists, and two 3-pointers.

George joined Kyle Kuzma as the only Wizards in double figures in one of the team’s worst performances of the season. Washington racked up 25 turnovers on the night, with all five starters accounting for at least two (George was on the low end, while Bilal Coulibaly led the way with four). Given Washington’s commitment to playing its youngsters, George won’t lack opportunities between now and the end of the season. However, due to the efficiency concerns, he’s only worth a look in deep leagues ahead of the “silly season.”

Kyle Kuzma tallied 19 points (7-of-14 FGs, 5-of-8 FTs), 10 rebounds, and one assist in 34 minutes in Wednesday’s loss to Toronto.

Kuzma led the Wizards in scoring and was the only starter to shoot over 40% from the field. He also gave fantasy managers a double-double, his third of the season. However, his assist production was minimal, and his defensive stats were non-existent. Kuzma’s stated desire to get his numbers won’t do category league managers much good if all he’s providing are points and rebounds.

The Wizards will start Jordan Poole, Bilal Coulibaly, Kyshawn George, Kyle Kuzma and Jonas Valanciunas against Toronto on Wednesday.

With Alexandre Sarr (ankle) sidelined for this game, Valanciunas will make a return to the starting lineup. He has played well as a starter this season and should be able to provide plenty of rebounds in this game.

With Sarr hobbled, Jonas Valanciunas is the most likely candidate to replace him in the starting five. Valanciunas has provided solid per-minute production for Washington this season, and he is a viable streamer, even on a crowded slate.

Sarr exited early from their loss on Monday, and there is a chance that a sprain in his left ankle keeps him sidelined against Toronto. If that happens, Jonas Valanciunas would likely get the start at center. He had 14 points and 14 rebounds in his most recent start.

Jonas Valanciunas finished Monday’s loss to Dallas with nine points (4-of-7 FGs, 1-of-1 FTs), five rebounds, and two assists in 19 minutes.

Valanciunas didn’t do much in Monday’s loss, due primarily to the game being a blowout. However, with Alexandre Sarr exiting before halftime with a sore left ankle, a return to the starting lineup may be in the cards for Valanciunas. He hasn’t needed to start to provide reliable fantasy value, but Sarr’s absence would raise JV’s ceiling. Also, another start of two could serve as a “showcase” for Valanciunas, whose name has come up in trade rumors recently.
Bilal Coulibaly

Bilal Coulibaly accumulated 16 points (6-of-15 FGs, 2-of-3 FTs), four rebounds, five assists, two steals, two blocks, and two 3-pointers in 29 minutes in Monday’s loss to Dallas.

Coulibaly hasn’t been a good fantasy option this season, but that’s been true for everyone on the Wizards not named Jordan Poole. The opportunities are what fantasy managers should consider when evaluating the second-year wing for the rest of the season. He played 29 minutes in Monday’s blowout, and category league managers can use the assists and defensive production. Rostering Coulibaly means you’ll take a hit in the field-goal percentage, but the defense makes him worth holding onto.

Jordan Poole played 29 minutes in Monday’s loss to Dallas, scoring 15 points (6-of-15 FGs) with six rebounds, six assists, and three 3-pointers.

Washington was never in Monday’s game, trailing by a 42-16 margin to end the first quarter. Poole gave fantasy managers some value in the rebound, assist, and 3-point categories, and he’s generally been a quality fantasy option this season. The issue is that there may come a point when the team decides to give Poole some time off, freeing up starters’ minutes for Bub Carrington (7/1/1 with one 3-pointer in 25 minutes). For that reason, now would be a good time to look into trading Poole for a player whose team is better-positioned to “run through the tape.”
