The Memphis Grizzlies announced Friday that Vince Williams is suffering from a stress fracture in his upper tibia. He’ll be evaluated in four weeks and is expected to make a full recovery.
Williams averaged 10.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game in 2023-24. He started in 33 contests. With GG Jackson (foot) already sidelined, this was an opportunity for Williams to cement his place within the Grizzlies rotation further. Vince’s absence opens up additional opportunities for Jake LaRavia, who has only played 70 games in his first two seasons.
  • MEM Small Forward #45
The Grizzlies announced on Wednesday that GG Jackson (broken fifth metatarsal, right foot) will be re-evaluated in three months after undergoing surgery.
Jackson injured his foot while playing basketball on August 27. According to the Grizzlies, the surgical procedure was successful, and Jackson will be re-evaluated in three months. Any fantasy managers hopeful of deriving late-round value from GG must pivot; Vince Williams Jr. was a better option even before the injury. Due to the likely ramp-up time needed before he’s fully cleared to return, Jackson may not offer much to managers in redraft leagues this season.
  • MEM Shooting Guard #5
Vince Williams Jr. (left patellar tendonitis) and John Konchar (right heel soreness) have been downgraded to out for Wednesday’s game against the Lakers.
This will be a second straight absence for Konchar, while this will be the ninth consecutive for Williams. Scotty Pippen Jr. and Desmond Bane should be the starting backcourt once again, though the Grizzlies have made plenty of changes game to game this season.
  • MEM Shooting Guard #46
John Konchar (right heel soreness) and Vince Williams Jr. (left patellar tendinitis) are doubtful for Wednesday’s game against the Lakers.
Konchar and Williams appear likely to remain sidelined for another game. The Grizzlies started Scotty Pippen Jr. and Desmond Bane in the backcourt for Monday’s loss to Denver and will likely do the same on Wednesday.
  • MEM Power Forward #15
Brandon Clarke (left Achilles tendon repair), John Konchar (right heel soreness), and Vince Williams Jr. (left patellar tendinitis) have been ruled out for Monday’s game against the Nuggets.
Clarke, Konchar, and Williams were initially doubtful for Monday’s game, so the status downgrades are unsurprising. DeJon Jarreau and Maozinha Pereira have played rotation minutes recently due to injuries and should do so on Monday. However, neither is worth streaming in this spot.
  • MEM Shooting Guard #46
John Konchar (right heel soreness) and Vince Williams Jr. (left patellar tendonitis) are doubtful for Monday’s game against Denver.
While Konchar started Friday’s loss to the Spurs, Williams has not played in a game since March 8. Both appear unlikely to be available on Monday, but Desmond Bane could mitigate the impact if he’s cleared to play. Bane is considered questionable with a sore back.
  • MEM Shooting Guard #22
Desmond Bane (back soreness) and Vince Williams Jr. (left patellar tendinitis) have been downgraded to out for Friday’s game against the Spurs.
Bane and Williams were initially doubtful, so the status downgrades were expected. Scotty Pippen Jr., John Konchar, and Jake LaRavia have all been cleared and should take on prominent roles within the rotation. Konchar has often been a starter and is the best fantasy option among the three.
  • MEM Shooting Guard #22
Desmond Bane (back soreness) and Vince Williams Jr. (left patellar tendinitis) are doubtful for Friday’s game against the Spurs.
Williams has missed Dayton’s last six games, and the doubtful tag suggests he will not be available on Friday. Bane is also doubtful, and the anticipated losses will free up additional minutes for DeJon Jarreau and Matthew Hurt. Neither player would be worth streaming in most fantasy leagues.
  • MEM Shooting Guard #5
Vince Williams Jr. (left patellar tendinitis) has been ruled out for Wednesday’s game against the Warriors.
Williams will miss a sixth straight game with knee tendinitis, which boosts John Konchar’s fantasy value. He has played heavy minutes and should be rostered in deep leagues, at a minimum.
  • MEM Shooting Guard #5
Vince Williams Jr. (left patellar tendinitis) is doubtful for Wednesday’s game against the Warriors.
Williams has missed Memphis’ last five games and appears likely to sit out a sixth. John Konchar will continue to log heavy minutes as the replacement in the starting lineup and is worthy of streaming consideration in deep leagues.
