Knicks waived SF Matt Ryan and SF Jacob Toppin.
Per league rules, two-way players can only be active for 50 games during the regular season. Toppin has reached his limit, while Ryan’s was on the horizon. As a result, they’ve been waived, opening up two slots for the Knicks. New York also has an open standard contract slot, with T.J. Warren and Chuma Okeke being two names that beat reporters have mentioned as options to fill that void.
  • NYK Power Forward #24
According to SNY’s Ian Begley, the Knicks have signed T.J. Warren to an Exhibit 10 contract.
With the Knicks waiving Marcus Morris and Chuma Okeke to free up cap space to absorb Karl-Anthony Towns’ contract, there’s room for another veteran in training camp. Enter Warren, a scoring wing who finished last season in Minnesota. He’ll need to earn a roster spot during camp; if that happens, Warrer would likely receive a deal worth the veteran minimum. He is not a player who fantasy managers should have on their draft boards.
  • MIN Power Forward #24
The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed T.J. Warren for the remainder of the season, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Warren will operate as a microwave scorer off the bench for Minnesota, but he’s not worth a look in the realm of fantasy hoops.
  • MIN Small Forward #1
The Timberwolves are planning to sign T.J. Warren to a 10-day deal pending a physical, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Warren hasn’t played in the NBA this season, and he most recently appeared in 42 games between the Nets and Suns during the 2022-23 campaign. Warren logged only four games in the 2020-21 campaign and missed all of the following season. In his last healthy campaign (2019-20), he averaged 19.8 points for the Pacers and had a monster performance in the Orlando Bubble, including a 31-point scoring average and career-high 53-point performance against Philly. Injuries have derailed a promising career, but Warren should still be able to provide some microwave scoring off the bench for the first-place Timberwolves. It’s a great move in real life, but it doesn’t make Warren worth an add in fantasy hoops.
  • PHX Small Forward #1
The Celtics are planning to meet with T.J. Warren and Lamar Stevens, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The Celtics are looking to add some wing depth, and they’ll meet with both players this week. Neither guy contributed in fantasy last season, with Warren spending time in both Brooklyn and Phoenix, while Stevens played for Cleveland. If either player joins Boston, they’ll provide depth, but they won’t impact the fantasy hoops landscape. Hoops Hype’s Michael Scotto added that Louis King will also work out for the Celtics this week.
  • FA Power Forward #21
T.J. Warren (illness) will not play in Sunday’s game against the Clippers.
No surprise here, as Warren was initially listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game. His absence frees up additional minutes for Ish Wainright and Damion Lee, who were already in line to see their playing time increase.

  • FA Power Forward #21
T.J. Warren (illness) is probable for Sunday’s game against the Clippers.
Warren was held out of Phoenix’s games against the Nuggets and Lakers, and it appears likely that he’ll miss Sunday’s contest as well. That’s unfortunate because Warren would have been in a heavy usage day due to the number of key contributors who have been ruled out.

  • FA Power Forward #21
T.J. Warren (illness) will not play against the Lakers on Friday.
This could’ve been a game for Warren to shine with Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton all out. However, they’ll have to rely on other options in a meaningless game for them.

  • FA Power Forward #21
T.J. Warren has been ruled out for Thursday’s game against the Nuggets with an illness.
Warren wasn’t on the initial injury report. His absence will free up additional minutes for starter Josh Okogie, who played just 20 minutes in Tuesday’s win over San Antonio. That isn’t enough to make Okogie a player worth adding for Thursday’s slate.

  • FA Power Forward #21
T.J. Warren shot 2-of-3 from the field in Tuesday’s 120-109 win over the Kings, finishing with five points, two rebounds, one steal, and one 3-pointer in seven minutes.
Warren played sparingly in the first game of his second stint with the Suns, who selected him with the 14th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Rostered in seven percent of Yahoo leagues, he has been well off the radar in fantasy basketball this season. That appears unlikely to change in Phoenix, even with the Suns’ limited numbers on the wings. Leave Warren on the waiver wire.
