The Suns have selected point guard Sergio “Spanish Chocolate” Rodriguez, but then immediately traded him to Portland for cash considerations.
The Blazers have made four trades so far tonight, and while some of them don’t make a lot of sense, they have improved their team. As for Rodriguez, he’ll need to work on his defense and take better care of the ball in the NBA, but this was about where he was expected to be drafted.

Spain’s Marc Gasol was held out of Tuesday’s exhibition loss to Team USA while recovering from a left shoulder injury, while backup point guard Sergio Rodriguez also sat out.
Gasol is expected to play in the Olympics and Spain will need him against the Americans, if they meet again. The good news is that Gasol should be ready for the start of the NBA season.

Sergio Rodriguez scored 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting during Tuesday’s loss to Brazil, to go with two 3-pointers, five assists, two rebounds and two turnovers through 22 minutes of action.
Rodriguez has outplayed starter Ricky Rubio over the past two games, and with Spain sitting in an 0-2 hole through their first two games of group play, Rodriguez may force Spain’s head coach Sergio Scariolo to make a switch to the starting five. Rubio fouled out in just 17 minutes of action, ending his night with three points (1-of-3 shooting), four boards, two turnovers and zero assists.

Tony Parker (toe) will return to the starting lineup for Wednesday’s game against Spain, sending Sergio Rodriguez back to the bench.
Parker was withheld from France’s previous game with a minor toe injury, but the injury was never believed to be serious and his return to action today is a good indication that he’s perfectly fine. Parker’s numbers have been trending in the wrong direction for the past three years, and that downward trend will more than likely continue as he enters his age-34 season.

The 76ers have officially signed Sergio Rodriguez.
The deal is reportedly for one year at $8 million. Rodriguez will help backup Jerryd Bayless at the point, but his fantasy value will be non-existent in standard leagues.

Sergio Rodriguez said that he signed with the 76ers because they “really had faith in me,” and that it’s “exciting” to play with a core of up-and-coming talent.
“I’m perhaps going to be the most veteran player on the team,” said Rodriguez, who played in the NBA from 2006-2010. He chafed at a small role during those years, but at age 30 he sounds ready to fill a backup-mentor role in Philly. There’s no reason to target the EuroBasket champion for fantasy purposes.

The Nets are the favorites to sign a deal with Sergio Rodriguez.
Is Spanish Chocolate coming back? He has been out of the NBA since 2009-10 and has been one of the best point guards of the Euroleague. If he does come to Brooklyn, Rodriguez might actually get minutes at age 29 with the Nets, so this could be something to watch in extremely deep fantasy leagues. He averaged 3.4 assists per game in his final 27 games with the Knicks.

The 76ers are still working on signing Sergio Rodriguez, according to general manager Bryan Colangelo.
While Rodriguez will soon travel to the United States to sign his deal, he has yet to officially ink his deal with the 76ers. “We haven’t signed him yet, we are working through some details,” Colangelo said. “He is at his national team’s practices while we are working on that.” While Rodriguez could have some fantasy value with the 76ers, he’s not currently on our must-draft list.

Sergio Rodriguez will stay in Europe with Real Madrid.
He was eyeing an NBA comeback and the Nets were the favorites to sign him, but it sounds like Spanish Chocolate will stay overseas for at least one more season.

The Sixers have agreed to terms with Sergio Rodriguez on a one-year, $8 million contract, sources told Shams Charania of The Vertical.
Brooklyn had been the favorites to lure the Euroleague star, but it was reported that he would remain in Europe with Real Madrid. Now he’ll join the Sixers, where his role is currently unclear and likely to be sorted out in training camp. He’s not someone we’re targeting aggressively in fantasy drafts, especially with Ben Simmons likely to dominate the ball, but his progression is worth watching from afar.
