The Celtics are ready to sign F/C Sean Williams and waive Jermaine O’Neal.
Given the Celtics depleted front court (Kevin Garnett starts at center) the move makes a lot of sense. Williams last played in the NBA for Dallas and has been in the D-League. He would help Greg Stiemsma off the bench.
  • Sean Williams will rejoin the Texas Legends of the D-League.
Williams is no longer on Dallas’ roster, but he’ll wrap up the end of the D-League season with the Legends after clearing waivers.
  • Mavericks call up F Sean Williams from the D-League.
Williams has been averaging 15 points and 8.7 rebounds in the D-League. He might be active for Monday’s game, but isn’t likely to stay with the team once Brandan Wright recovers from his recent concussion.
  • Mavericks waived F/C Sean Williams.
Williams lasts just six days with the Mavs this time even though Brendan Haywood (knee) is sidelined.
  • POR Center #54
Updating a previous item, Greg Stiemsma (sore feet) has been ruled out of Tuesday’s game against the Heat.
Stiemsma has been dealing with sore feet and did not participate in shootaround. Backups Ryan Hollins and Sean Williams could each see minutes off the bench in his absence, but neither is likely to play a major role.
  • Mavericks assigned C Sean Williams to the Texas Legends of the D-League.
It’s further confirmation that both Brenden Haywood (ankle) and Brandan Wright (concussion) are ready to go. Williams averaged 3.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 11.3 minutes per game during his four-game stint in the rotation.
  • Celtics agreed to terms with F/C Sean Williams.
Williams is expected to be in uniform on Friday against the Hawks. He’ll give Boston further depth inside and will be postseason eligible.
  • Celtics signed F/C Sean Williams.
Williams will be playoff eligible, but he’s likely nothing more than an insurance policy at the end of the bench.
  • MIN Power Forward #21
Kevin Garnett (rest) won’t play on Friday against the Hawks.
Garnett is getting some rest along with Paul Pierce. Greg Stiemsma, Ryan Hollins, JaJuan Johnson and even the freshly-signed Sean Williams should all see minutes, but owners in standard-sized leagues should be able to do better than any of those guys.
  • Sean Williams, who was recently called up from the D-League, was impressive in 15 minutes off the Mavericks’ bench on Thursday.
Williams had four points, four rebounds, two assists and two blocks, and his energy was infectious. He shouldn’t be monitored outside of the deepest leagues, especially since the return of Brendan Haywood and/or Brandan Wright could bump him off the active roster.
