Russian Pavel Podkolzine has received his travel visa and will join the Mavericks this week.
Podkolzine, 7-5, is expected to spend the entire season on the IL once he undergoes surgery on his pituitary gland.
  • The Mavericks are contemplating a buyout for center 7-5 Pavel Podkolzin, who has one year remaining on his contract.
As a third-year player, Podkolzin cannot be sent to the developmental league and the Mavericks have a logjam for playing time at center. A buyout would allow him to play significant minutes in Europe and continue to develop.
  • The Mavericks waived center Pavel Podkolzin on Friday.
He was coming into his third season so he couldn’t play in the D-League this year, so he’ll play in Europe while he continues his development. The Mavs signed Pops Mensah-Bonsu out of George Washington, so Podkolzin became expendable.
  • The Mavericks, who have a maximum 15 players under contract, are exploring the possibility of releasing Pavel Podkolzin so he can play in Europe this season.
The 7'5" center has played in just five games over the past two seasons. At 21 years old, he remains a big-time project.
  • Once he gets his visa problems resolved and he can travel to the U.S., Pavel Podkolzin will have surgery to correct a pituitary gland problem and remove a tumor.
Podkolzin will begin the year on the injured list and should spend most of the season there.
  • Pavel Podkolzin underwent successful brain surgery over the weekend to remove a tumor from his pituitary gland and was released from the hospital the next day.
He can start working out in two weeks, but is out for the season.
  • Mavericks placed center Pavel Podkolzin on the injured list with torn right knee cartilage.
Podkolzin didn’t play in a game during his brief stint on the active roster.
  • Mavericks activated center Pavel Podkolzin from the injured list.
It’s doubtful that Podkolzin, who underwent brain surgery in November, will see any action for the Mavs. He’ll probably return to the injured list soon.
