Free agent P.J. Hairston will be claimed off waivers by the Mavericks’ D-League affiliate, according to Yahoo!'s Marc Spears.
Hairston led North Carolina with 14.7 points in just 24 minutes per game last season, but the NCAA suspended him for violations and the Tar Heels dropped their appeal in late December. Hairston won’t be eligible to play in the NBA until next season.

P.J. Hairston took part in the Lakers free agent minicamp on Wednesday.
While Hairston could earn a camp invite from the Lakers, general manager Mitch Kupchak said the team isn’t looking for rotation players. Even if Hairston ends up with a roster spot in Los Angeles, he won’t have much fantasy value for 2016-17.
  • HOU Shooting Guard #19
P.J. Hairston recently had a workout with the Nets.
Hairston may be able to turn this workout into a camp invite, but even if he does make the regular-season roster, his fantasy value would be more or less non-existent in Brooklyn. The Nets also reportedly brought in Jorge Gutierrez and Kendal Marshall for workouts, although with five point guards already on the roster going into camp, it would be surprising to see those guys earn a camp invite.

P.J. Hairston has reportedly agreed to a training camp deal with the Rockets.
The Rockets do have available roster space, so if Hairston impresses during training camp, he could earn himself a spot on the regular-season roster. However, with guys like Eric Gordon and Corey Brewer expected to soak up most of the reserve minutes in Houston’s backcourt, Hairston would be nothing more than an emergency depth kind of guy with the Rockets.

The Rockets have reportedly waived G/F P.J. Hairston.
Hairston was a long shot to make the team and failed to make any kind of meaningful impression in training camp or during the preseason.
  • HOU Shooting Guard #19
X-rays on P.J. Hairston’s left shoulder were negative and he’s listed as day-to-day with a contusion.
We don’t expect to see him in uniform on Wednesday, but at least it’s not a long-term injury. Hairston shot 32.3 percent as a rookie and is nowhere near being a standard-league fantasy asset.

For the third consecutive offseason, P.J. Hairston is again in trouble with the law.
Hairston was cited around midnight on June 18 for driving with a revoked license, speeding, driving left of center and driving on expired tags. Hairston’s court case has been set for July 27, and a spokesman for the Hornets said the team is still in the information gathering stage. Hairston has been pretty horrible through Summer League thus far, and his new legal troubles will likely send him even further down the depth chart. We’ll be watching to see if he receives any additional punishment from the league.
  • NBA Shooting Guard #30
Troy Daniels (strained right shoulder) will not play in Wednesday’s Summer League game vs. the Magic.
Daniels has been en fuego over the past few games, but the Hornets will give him some rest today, and he is being listed as day-to-day. P.J. Hairston is also dealing with a shoulder issue, but was seen going through warmups, so he could jump into a larger role on Wednesday with undrafted G Aaron Harrison also primed for some more floor time.
  • HOU Shooting Guard #19
P.J. Hairston (shoulder) was spotted going through warmups on Wednesday.
Hariston hurt his shoulder during Tuesday’s game, and is being listed as day-to-day, but there’s a chance he gives it a go today with Troy Daniels (shoulder) set to miss Wednesday’s contest.
  • HOU Shooting Guard #19
P.J. Hairston left Tuesday’s Summer League game vs. the Nets after sustaining a left shoulder contusion, and he will not return.
Hairston appeared to be in a decent amount of pain, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he missed Wednesday’s Summer League game vs. the Magic. He took his fair share of bad shots before exiting the game, finishing with eight points on 3-of-9 shooting, to go with five rebounds, three assists, one steal, one 3-pointer and one turnover. The constant poor shot selection will find him on the bench in a hurry during the regular-season, and he’s going to have trouble finding consistent minutes playing behind Troy Daniels and Nicolas Batum. His fantasy value is right around zero.
