Germany won its first EuroBasket title since 1993 on Sunday, and the players with the most NBA experience led the way. While Dennis Schröder was huge in crunch time, Wagner and Isaac Bonga (20/5/3/1/1 with four three-pointers) led the way scoring-wise and Tristan da Silva (13/4/1 with three three-pointers) stepped up with timely perimeter shooting. Wagner averaged nearly 21 points per game for the tournament, with Germany going 9-0 between the group stage and the team’s knockout stage run to the title. Having firmly established himself as a key cog for the Magic, Wagner should be a popular option in fantasy drafts this fall, especially in category leagues.

Wagner did not have his best day shooting the basketball, but the Orlando Magic wing still recorded his sixth 20-point game of this summer’s EuroBasket. His defense was more important than his work on the offensive end of the floor, as Wagner was the primary defender of Finland’s Lauri Markkanen for most of the game. Markkanen was limited to 16 points on 6-of-17 shooting, a significant factor in Germany advancing to Sunday’s final. The Germans, who won their lone EuroBasket title in 1993, will face Greece or Türkiye.

Like teammate Dennis Schröder, Wagner struggled from the field in Wednesday’s quarterfinal victory. However, he got to the foul line frequently, making 13 of his 14 attempts. As a team, Germany outscored Slovenia by 10 from the charity stripe, and that proved to be the difference. Next up for Germany, considered by some to be the favorites to win EuroBasket, is surprise semifinalist Finland on Friday.

Bitadze’s EuroBasket campaign ended early in the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s quarterfinal defeat. He was whistled for an unsportsmanlike foul after receiving a technical earlier in the game, prompting his ejection. That was a disappointing end to the tournament for the Orlando Magic center, who played well in helping Georgia reach the quarterfinals for the first time in the nation’s history. However, while the conclusion was suboptimal, playing well against this level of competition is something Bitadze can build on as he prepares for another season in Orlando.

Wagner didn’t have his best performance of the tournament, but it was more than enough for Germany to win this game handily. Wagner will need to have a better game on Wednesday, when they take on the winner of Italy and Slovenia.

Bitadze has played well for Georgia during EuroBasket, with averages of 18.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.0 steal and 2.0 blocks per game. He’ll continue to play a reserve role behind Wendell Carter Jr. for the Magic this upcoming season, but performances like this are encouraging for his long-term value.

Due to the team’s astronomical point differential, Germany likely would have finished atop Group B at EuroBasket even with a loss to Finland. Wagner and his teammates left no doubt, taking care of business in an actual road game (Finland was the Group B host). He only played 20 minutes in Wednesday’s 91-61 victory, with Dennis Schröder (16/7/9/0/1 with two three-pointers) logging 29 minutes and Tristan da Silva (11/4/0/1/2 with two three-pointers) 25. From this point onward, the competition will become more challenging for Germany, the reigning FIBA World Cup champions, as the Round of 16 awaits.

After scoring seven points or less in each of Germany’s first three games at EuroBasket, da Silva got hot against an overmatched Great Britain squad on Monday. The Orlando Magic wing shot 5-of-7 from beyond the arc and was perfect from two, leading the way offensively with Dennis Schröder (19/2/5/1 with two three-pointers) and Franz Wagner (18/1/10/1 with three three-pointers) also hitting double figures. Da Silva may get most of his scoring opportunities as a catch-and-shoot option in Orlando next season, so the three-point shooting is noteworthy, especially after he shot 33.5 percent from deep as a rookie.

Georgia moves to 1-1 in EuroBasket with this loss to Italy, but that hasn’t prevented Bitadze from having success in the tournament. He has 37 points and three triples through two games, and he’ll continue to carry the offensive load for Georgia. Bitadze likely won’t see this much usage for Orlando next season, but he’ll be an effective reserve with streaming upside.

23dFranz Wagner finished with 24 points (9-of-17 FGs), seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and two three-pointers against Lithuania on Saturday.

Wagner is averaging 22.3 points through the first three games of EuroBasket, and no team has come close to beating Germany. Wagner, who should be in for a big season for the Magic, is having plenty of success in this tournament. He also hit two triples in this game after only hitting one in their first two; if Wagner is able to improve his deep-range shooting, he could make his first All-Star appearance.
