If you consider yourself to be a true fan of the game of basketball, you should take the time to familiarize yourself with the greats who played the game in eras gone by.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, and in this clip of highlights featuring some of his battles against Wilt Chamberlain shows you exactly why.

I was fortunate enough to see Kareem play in person many times during the 80s, but by that point he was a shell of the player we see in these video highlights. The man was agile, crafty around the rim, and played with a level of finesse and power that is unmatched historically for a player of his size.

Chamberlain, obviously, wasn’t so bad himself. But his talent appeared to be more raw and based on physical ability rather than hours of practice working on perfecting the nuances of his game.

It’s a joy to watch these two titans battle, and it makes you stop for a moment to consider how insane it would be to see a matchup like this in today’s NBA, given the exhaustive coverage and the constant discussion surrounding the game’s best players.
