This video from the NBA showcases the deep emotions his announcement sparked (though it ignores the surrounding homophobia in a time when many viewed AIDS as a gay problem). Everyone was sad, confused and scared.
Including Johnson.
But he courageously persevered and helped change how we view HIV and AIDS.
