Tracy McGrady sure sounded like someone interested in coming back.
Not only did he talk up his ability to still play – including his fit with Kobe and the Lakers – the quotes came on the heals of a report this fall that he’d worked out with Bryant with the goal of returning to the NBA.
But apparently, McGrady was just getting nostalgic rather than making serious plans.
McGrady, via his Facebook page:I know you all may have read the Bleacher Report article but I have no plans on coming back to the NBA. I’m a happily retired man.
Always appreciate the love you all give but my playing days are no more. Onto other ventures.
Announcement: ProBasketballTalk’s partner FanDuel is hosting a one-day $125,000 Fantasy Basketball league for Thursday’s NBA games. It’s $25 to join and first prize is $15,000. Starts at 8pm ET on Thursday. Here’s the FanDuel link.
McGrady retired in 2013 after one heck of a career. Some surely didn’t want to see him struggle, but that’s not me. If McGrady wanted to come back, he should be true to himself rather than worry about some fans thinking it’d harm his legacy. (We saw him stick around well after his prime with the Knicks, Hawks, Pistons and Spurs, anyway.)
Alas, that discussion probably irrelevant. We should take McGrady at his word he has no comeback plans. Retirement has seemingly been fulfilling, and he sounds committed to his new business project.
