Carl Braun, one of the top guards of the 1950s, a five-time All-Star and former New York Knicks all-time leading scorer, has passed away at the age of 82.
Braun, a Brooklyn native, entered the NBA just after World War II in 1947 and had a 13-year career, 12 of those with the Knickerbockers. Eight of his first nine years in the league he scored at least 14 points per game (and that other year he was at 13.9), which is why when he left the team in 1961 he was the franchise’s all-time leading scorer with 10,625 points. He is still fifth on the Knicks all-time list.
His final two years with the Knicks, he served as a player coach. He finished his career after one season with the Celtics.
Braun died of natural causes while living in Florida. He is survived by his wife Joan, four daughters and six grand children.
Braun is the second Knicks legend to die in the last week. Dick McGuire, a member of the Hall of Fame, passed away last Wednesday.
