With Tom Thibodeau and the Bulls seemingly in a stalemate, Scott Skiles has reportedly emerged as frontrunner to become the Magic’s next coach.
Could the former Orlando player be in even stronger position than that?
Peter Vecsey:
Not surprisingly, Skiles will be named Magic coach this wk, I am informed. He was favorite f outset. CEO did PR 4 team when SK starred 4 'em

Vecsey is both right a lot (which is why I’m sharing this) and wrong a lot (which is why you shouldn’t fully trust it). Maybe he’s spot-on here. Maybe he’s taking reliable information about the Magic’s strong interest in Skiles and taking a chance on the imminent-hire part.
Skiles would be a decent fit for Orlando. He doesn’t have the record of player development the young Magic could use. But he should improve their defense, burn out everyone (including himself) and then cede way to Jim Boylan as interim coach. We’ve seen this too many times to expect anything different.
In a league where few coaches last long-term anyway, this would be an OK hire.
