When LSU held a combine before the season for NBA scouts, Tim Quarterman looked like a potential first-round pick.
But his stock has gradually fallen during a season overwhelmed by the presence of potential No. 1 pick Ben Simmons.
That won’t stop Quarterman from turning pro, though.

Quarterman is a potential second-round pick. I hope he’s happy just moving on from college, because the 21-year-old might not be drafted.
He’s a 6-foot-6 point guard, and he brings the advantages that come with that – seeing passing angles smaller point guards don’t, plus rebounding for the position. Quarterman has potential to switch effectively defensively, but his lack of strength limits that ability now.
Quarterman has a nice ability to recognize and make the fundamental pass. But his lack of shooting and the athleticism of NBA defenders will reduce the number of simple passes available to him.
If a team has enough offensive weapons off the bench, Quarterman could work as a distributor on a reserve unit. But that’s a narrow window to create an NBA career.
Otherwise, Quarterman will have to get better – mostly as an outside shooter, but also as a stronger defender. After three years of college, the odds are against him.
