Report: Knicks discussing trading for Derrick Rose

The Knicks are looking for a point guard.

Derrick Rose is at least somewhat on the trade block.

Hmmm…

Ian Begley of ESPN

The Knicks have had internal discussions recently about trading for Rose, league sources tell ESPN.

Rose would be a decent fallback option for the Knicks if they strike out in free agency. It probably wouldn’t take much to pry away Rose, and he’d be a talent upgrade over Jose Calderon.

I wouldn’t count on it, but maybe Rose finds his stride away from Jimmy Butler and outside his hometown.

Rose is due $21,323,252 next season in the final year of his contract. The Knicks could take a flier on him, and if it doesn’t work, renounce him in 2017 and have plenty of cap room. That’s the most likely scenario – but there’s an outside chance Rose clicks in New York.

Free agents like Mike Conley should be the Knicks’ priority, though.
