Andrew Wiggins overwhelmingly fit the statistical profile of a Rookie of the Year.

There won’t be an upset.

Kent Youngblood of the StarTribune:

Andrew Wiggins will became the first Timberwolves player to be named the league’s Rookie of the Year, according to a league source.

The official announcement will be made Thursday.

Wiggins was fantastic this season, scoring at a high clip for a Minnesota team that heaped a lot on his plate. Not many rookies could handle such a large role, especially with such a weak supporting cast.

That unquestionably bodes well for Wiggins’ future.

But did Wiggins deserve the award for this season? I would have gone with Bulls forward Nikola Mirotic in a very close call. Am I up in arms about Wiggins getting it? Not in the slightest. To me, this was a near-tossup that wasn’t treated as such – and it went the predictable way.
