Rumors of the Jazz getting a new logo have apparently come to fruition.

Paul Lukas of Uni Watch:

The Jazz eliminate the mountains that have been featured in their primary logo since 1996, and I’m fine with that. Better for a basketball team to form its identity around Jazz than Utah.

On the same note, I like emphasizing the stylized J in the form of a musical note with a basketball. That was part of the team’s initial logo in New Orleans and after moving to Utah, and it returned as a secondary logo a few years ago.

The circular logo is plain and simple – emphasis on plain. That basketball just doesn’t mean anything when it’s not sitting at the bottom of the musical-note J.
