Mo Williams was a key contributor off the bench last season for a Blazers team that finished fifth in the league in offensive efficiency.
As an unrestricted free agent this summer, however, it became quickly clear that Portland didn’t value his services all that much.
From Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:Free-agent guard Mo Williams is agreed to a one-year, $3.75 million deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Williams, 31, averaged 9.7 points for the Portland Trail Blazers last season.
In addition to the points, Williams dished out 4.3 assists while playing 24.8 minutes per contests in 74 regular season appearances.
Williams could have remained in Portland for one additional season, but opted out of the final year of his deal in order to pursue a more lucrative contract as an unrestricted free agent.
Unfortunately, the market wasn’t in need of what Williams had to offer, and while he did receive a raise of over a million dollars for next season, he’ll be playing meaningless minutes for a lottery team now, instead of contributing to a playoff contender the way he did last year with the Blazers.
