On Tuesday, the Warriors will receive their championship rings and begin their title defense against the Pelicans at Oracle Arena — but it will be with a different coach. As Steve Kerr continues to recover from offseason back surgery, the team has announced that associate head coach Luke Walton will take his place at the beginning of the season, until he recovers.

Kerr has been at practice and hanging around the team, so there’s a chance he isn’t too far off from returning to the sidelines. But he still isn’t physically up to coaching the team on a day-to-day basis. It’s unclear when he’ll return.
