The only individual award the NBA has yet to announce is Rookie of the Year, although there’s not much drama as to who will win it. Karl-Anthony Towns blew away all competition in 2015-16, putting together arguably the most polished rookie season since LeBron James in 2003-04.
And sure enough, the Minnesota Timberwolves have called a press conference for Monday morning to make a “Major NBA Announcement,” which ESPN.com’s Marc Stein confirms will be what everyone thinks it is.

Towns will be the Timberwolves’ second consecutive Rookie of the Year (Andrew Wiggins won it last year), and comes in the middle of what has already been an eventful offseason following the hiring of Tom Thibodeau as head coach and president of basketball operations. On Tuesday night, they will also find out where they’ll pick in the draft lottery.
There was never any doubt that Towns would win the award. The only question left will be whether it’s unanimous. Only four players in NBA history have won the award unanimously: Ralph Sampson in 1984, David Robinson in 1990, Blake Griffin in 2011 and Damian Lillard in 2013.
