Jeremy Lin is just another guy going from Harvard to Manhattan to make it big.
Okay, his path is a little different. Lin has gone from the star of the often-overlooked Harvard basketball team to the starting point guard of the often-overanalyzed New York Knicks.
Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said Lin would get the start against the Jazz Monday night when speaking to reporters (such as Brian Mahoney of AP).
Lin aggressively attacked the Nets off the pick-and-roll Saturday — looking to make the plays long missing from Mike D’Antoni’s offense in New York. The result was 25 points, 7 assists and a Knicks win.
Lin, who is wildly popular in the Asian-American community, was a hit at Summer League two-years ago because he would relentlessly push the ball and attack off picks. He never quite fit that into a game system in Golden State or Houston (both teams let him go) — but what Lin does is exactly what the Knicks have needed. He gets into the lane and draws defenders, he is not looking for just his shot but the best play. He’s not more talented than Toney Douglas or Iman Shumpert (one of whom will sit to make way for Lin in the starting lineup), but he fits the Knicks better.
However, the Jazz are better and more disciplined than the Nets, so this will be a much tougher test. But Lin is getting his shot.
