The Rockets have been plenty good this season, and currently sit in fourth place in the Western Conference standings.
What’s indisputable is that they haven’t been nearly as good as the Warriors.
Golden State had beaten Houston in each of the first two meetings between the teams this season, and both times the final margin of victory was in the double digits. James Harden wanted to remind his teammates of that fact in the pregame huddle before facing the Warriors again this past Saturday, and threw in his belief that “they ain’t even that good,” presumably to help the motivational process.
The Warriors won the latest matchup by 25 points.
There’s a little bit of an added factor in play between fans (and even the media) who root for/cover these two teams. By most accounts, James Harden is the leader in the race for MVP, even though Stephen Curry has been the best player on what has been the league’s best team through the first half of the season.
The teams meet for the final time in the regular season at Oracle Arena on Wednesday.
