The Heat drafted Michael Beasley No. 2 overall in 2008.
They signed him again, following stints with the Timberwolves and Suns, last season.
And despite making its discontent with him very clear, Miami can’t resist a third go-around with the forward.
Potential will keep getting you opportunities.
Beasley has yet to approach the promise he displayed at Kansas State – and he came closer earlier in his NBA career than he has lately. But the hope everything will finally click is intoxicating. Just watch him dominate this Chinese All-Star game.
For everything he’s gone through and put himself through, Beasley is just 26. Miami has a strong record of helping embattled players find their way. Hassan Whiteside has been sensational. Henry Walker is providing immediate returns.
It’s possible Beasley follows that path. Don’t count on it, but if the Heat – the team that knows him best – think he warrants a 10-day contract, there’s a chance.
