Greg Foster may be back in the NBA… as a Sixers assistant coach

Greg Foster Jazz

Greg Foster had a solid 13-year NBA career — the big man rebounded, defended and generally soaked up space in the paint. Most people remember him with the Stockton/Malone the Jazz in the second half of the 1990s, but he bounces around the NBA before and after that (even picked up a ring with the 2001 Lakers).

After a decade away Greg Foster appears on his way back in the NBA… as a coach.

The Sixers are bringing him in as an assistant coach to Brett Brown reports SB Nation’s UTEP college blog (via Liberty Ballers), which is where Foster was working as an assistant coach. The Sixers have not confirmed this yet.

Foster brings a former NBA player to the Sixers staff, joining already hired Chad Iske and Lloyd Pierce.

It’s going to be a tough season to be a Sixers coach (or fan, or player) because this is an intentionally bad team looking to end up high in the draft next season. Midway through the season, Foster may miss the pace and advantages of the college game.
