Mookie Blaylock, who had a 13-year NBA career through the 1990s that included one All-Star Game, is on life support in an Atlanta area hospital after a auto accident, reports NBC’s Atlanta affiliate.
There are not a lot of details but apparently Blaylock and the passenger in the car are both in critical condition at the hospital, according to the NBC report.
Blaylock played 13 years in the NBA, seven with the Hawks (there were also stints with the Nets and Warriors). He was known for his defense (he led the league in steals twice and still is the Hawks franchise leader in steals) he was also one of the first guards to really embrace shooting the three ball, taking more than 600 attempts several times (a very high number for that era). He had a solid NBA career.
The band Pearl Jam was first known around Seattle as Mookie Blaylock until the player forced the band to change its name.
