Terry Porter spent the first 10 seasons of his NBA career with the Portland Trail Blazers, where he was a two-time All-Star, averaged 14.9 points and seven assists a game, and was a fan favorite. He’s lived in Portland for years.
Now he’s got a new job in Portland that is a little higher profile.
The former NBA head coach is taking over as the head coach at the University of Portland, reports Dwight Jaynes at CSNNW.com. The final details have to be hammered out, but expect an announcement sooner rather than later.
Porter spent three seasons as an NBA head coach, two in Milwaukee, plus he spent another five as an assistant coach. That plus his playing days should make him an excellent recruiter for the Pilots, who play in the West Coast Conference against the likes of Gonzaga, BYU, and St. Mary’s. Portland was 12-20 under Eric Reveno last season, who left after a decade coaching Portland.
Good luck to Porter, we’ll see if he can build a mid-major power.
