Long dismissed — but well paid — center Eddy Curry could make his debut for the Miami Heat, reports our own Ira Winderman at the Sun Sentinel.
Instead of again summarily ruling the bulky veteran center out of Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers at AmericanAirlines Arena, Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra left the door ajar after Wednesday’s practice.
“Possibly,” Spoelstra said, with the bulk of Andrew Bynum looming. “I’ll reevaluate day to day. If it doesn’t happen tomorrow or this week, it’s soon.”
For the record, the last time Eddy Curry set foot on an NBA court it was Dec. 17, 2009. Injuries and weight problems have plagued his career.
But the Heat were desperate enough for help in the paint that they gave him a chance. And while not about to be confused with Manute Bol anytime soon, Curry said he has shed more than 70 pounds from his peak weight. Which was pushing close to 400 pounds.
We don’t know what his weight is now, but down enough he might see the court. So just to summarize, Eddy Curry apparently will be back on the court for the Heat before the injured Dwyane Wade (who is officially day-to-day with a sprained ankle but does not appear ready to go up against Kobe Bryant Thursday).
