The other day I mocked the idea that NBA Hall of Famer could do anything in the Kenneth Bae case, but I will say this — at least he’s got his foot in the door. That’s more than we can say for the United States’ last formal envoy to the country.
Rodman is back in North Korea right now and will visit with the country’s dictator Kim Jong Un, reports the Associated Press.
On this trip Rodman refused to say whether he would ask about Bae, but rather said he was just visiting a friend and to maybe help start a basketball league.
Of course, reports are not all friends of Kim have things work out so well for them. But it’s Rodman’s life and he should live it how he sees fit an hang with who he sees fit.
Rodman was in North Korea back in February as part of a “basketball diplomacy” trip with some Harlem Globetrotters when he and the unquestioned ruler of that nation hit it off — turns out he’s a big NBA fan, particularly those 1990s Bulls teams. Rodman and Kim hung out and upon his return Rodman would tell anyone who would listen what a good guy Kim was.
