Sacramento is bringing the “Big Nasty” to its bench.
A report from News 10 in Sacramento (via Sactown Royalty) says Kings coach Mike Malone has hired former King and 12-year NBA veteran Corliss Williamson as an assistant coach. Williamson is reportedly leaving his job as head coach of Central Arkansas for the opportunity.
Williamson was drafted by the Kings in 1995 and played more than five seasons for them, but Chris Webber was eating up the minutes at the four so Williamson was traded to the Pistons. In Detroit Williamson was the 2002 Sixth Man of the Year and was part of the 2004 Pistons title team. At the end of his career he was traded back to the Kings and played a couple more years there.
It’s a nice throwback to history by the Kings, and Malone trusts Williamson as a coach. There’s a lot of work to do with this team but Sacramento could certainly use some of what Williamson brought to the court.
