Undrafted free agent forward Mychel Thompson will be on the Cavs’ final roster if they don’t make any more roster moves.
His father of the same name and brother Klay Thompson round out the NBA family, and Mychel reportedly made the roster after proving to be a better decision-maker than recently waived Manny Harris. Thompson will not have any fantasy value barring a slew of injuries.
  • DAL Shooting Guard #6
In a bit of a surprise, the Cavaliers waived Manny Harris on Friday.
Harris started 15 games for the Cavs last season, averaging 5.9 points and 2.6 rebounds in 17 minutes per game. Harris has missed all of training camp with a burn on his right foot suffered during the lockout and is expected to sidelined another week or two. The Cavs also waived Kenny Hayes, meaning Mychel Thompson, who averaged 14.6 points and 5.9 rebounds as a senior last season at Pepperdine, has claimed the last spot on the Cavs’ bench.
  • NYK Shooting Guard
Mychel Thompson started at shooting guard for the Cavaliers on Tuesday and had eight points, four assists, a steal and a block on 3-of-9 shooting.
Daniel Gibson and Anthony Parker were out with injuries, forcing Byron Scott to use the rookie out of position. Unless you’re in an extremely deep league, leave Thompson on waivers.
  • NYK Shooting Guard
Mychel Thompson is starting at shooting guard in Tuesday’s game against the Celtics.
With both Anthony Parker (back) and Daniel Gibson (neck) out, Michael Thompson’s son gets the nod ahead of Alonzo Gee. Thompson is an undrafted rookie out of Pepperdine that has two career NBA appearances. We’d expect Gee and Ramon Sessions to get plenty of minutes at the “two” as well.
  • CLE Small Forward #7
Coach Byron Scott has not named a starting shooting guard for Tuesday’s game against the Celtics.
Anthony Parker (back) and Daniel Gibson (neck) are both out. That leaves Ramon Sessions, Alonzo Gee and Mychel Thompson as options. No matter who starts, all three figure to see minutes based on game flow. Even the most desperate owners should be able to do better for a spot-start.
  • CLE Shooting Guard #1
Daniel Gibson (neck) will play in Tuesday’s game against the Heat.
Gibson has missed four straight games after a scary soft tissue infection caused him to be hospitalized. However, he’s stepping back into an excellent situation for production. Anthony Parker (back) remains out and Mychel Thompson has flopped as the starting shooting guard. Gibson is making 1.7 3-pointers per game on the year despite averaging just 25.1 minutes per game.
  • NYK Shooting Guard
    Cavs waived SG Mychel Thompson.
Thompson has started three straight games in place of Anthony Parker (back), but has made just 5-of-21 shots in that span. Daniel Gibson (neck) is healthy and projects as the starting shooting guard until Parker returns.
  • NYK Shooting Guard
Cavaliers forward Mychel Thompson played the entire fourth quarter in Sunday’s surprise win against the Celtics, as Daniel Gibson (neck) and Anthony Parker (stiff back) were unavailable.
Thompson was solid with four points, two rebounds and a steal in the quarter. It’s interesting to note that he played ahead of Christian Eyenga, who is buried somewhere beneath Byron Scott’s doghouse at this point.
  • CLE Center #13
Tristan Thompson (ankle) and Daniel Gibson (neck) will not play on Friday.
Both players have been ruled out for the game against Orlando. Mychel Thompson will get another start at shooting guard with Anthony Parker (back) also ruled out, while Alonzo Gee is a very solid bet to see an increased role off the bench.
  • CLE Shooting Guard
Anthony Parker (back) will not play on Friday against the Magic.
Parker has been dealing with back issues all season and was forced to sit out on Tuesday due to the injury. He’ll miss his second straight on Friday, and Mychel Thompson will once again draw the start in his place. However, Ramon Sessions and Alonzo Gee are the beneficiaries of Parker’s absence from a fantasy perspective.
