According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the 76ers have waived Montrezl Harrell.
The 76ers are dealing with a roster crunch, which factored into the decision to waive Harrell. However, the team will continue to support him in his recovery from the torn ACL and meniscus he suffered during the summer. According to Charania, Harrell hopes to be cleared for a return after the All-Star break.

Montrezl Harrell underwent surgery to repair the torn ACL and meniscus in his right knee on Wednesday.
Harrell was diagnosed with a torn ACL and meniscus a few weeks ago, and he finally had surgery to repair it. He is considered out indefinitely. Harrell re-signed with Philadelphia this summer, but they also added Mo Bamba and brought back Paul Reed. Philly will have plenty of center depth behind Embiid even if Harrell misses the majority of the season.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Montrezl Harrell has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and meniscus.
According to Shams, Harrell got an MRI on Wednesday to “assess recent right knee swelling following his offseason workouts.” It’s unclear how long he’ll be sidelined, but Paul Reed is shaping up to be a sneaky, late-round flyer in redraft leagues as Joel Embiid’s primary backup.

Montrezl Harrell has re-signed with the 76ers on a one-year deal, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Harrell was a depth piece that didn’t see much of a role behind Joel Embiid last season. He declined his player option and could’ve signed anywhere, but he opted to remain in Philly and compete with Mo Bamba and Paul Reed for the backup center spot. There isn’t any fantasy value coming from Embiid’s backup, unless he’s not in the lineup. However, with three guys behind him competing for minutes, none of them will be great options.
  • Montrezl Harrell has declined his $2.7 million player option for the 2023-24 season and will become an unrestricted free agent, according to TNT’s Chris Haynes.
Harrell appeared in 57 games for the 76ers last season and averaged just 11.9 minutes per game, his fewest minutes since his rookie campaign. The 2019-20 Sixth Man of the Year will look for a new home next season and potentially an expanded role.

Joel Embiid (injury management) has been ruled out for Friday’s game against the Hawks.
Not only will Embiid not play in the second game of Philadelphia’s back-to-back, but he won’t even accompany the team on its trek to Atlanta. Expect to see plenty of Paul Reed and Montrezl Harrell, and fantasy managers should also prepare for the possibility that James Harden (Achilles) doesn’t play, either.

Joel Embiid (right calf tightness) is questionable for Saturday’s game against the Suns.
Embiid started and played 38 minutes in Friday’s loss to the Warriors. Should he be cleared to play, this could be a big night for The Process, as the Suns will be without starting center Deandre Ayton. If Embiid sits, Paul Reed and Montrezl Harrell would be in for increased rotation minutes.

According to 76ers coach Doc Rivers, Joel Embiid (right calf tightness) is “fine” for Friday’s game against the Warriors.
Embiid will be on the floor Friday night, which is great news for those who have him rostered. As a result, no fantasy boost for Paul Reed, and Montrezl Harrell may be in line for a DNP-CD. Harrell played three minutes in Wednesday’s win over the Bulls, his first action since March 2.

Joel Embiid (left foot soreness) has been downgraded to out for Wednesday’s matchup with Miami.
Embiid is consistently listed as questionable, and he usually makes his decision after going through warmups. Generally, he has played through the injury, but he’ll miss Wednesday’s game. Instead of sliding Montrezl Harrell into the starting lineup, they’ll roll with a smaller starting lineup with Tyrese Maxey opening the game and P.J. Tucker starting at center. Harrell should still play an increased role, but it won’t be as large as he usually sees when Embiid is out.

Dewayne Dedmon (left hip tightness) has officially been listed as questionable for Thursday’s game against the Grizzlies.
The journeyman big hasn’t seen the floor since early January when he was a member of the Heat. Now, after being traded to and waived by the Spurs, Dedmon is looking to contribute on a contending Sixers team. It will be interesting to see how he slots into the rotation. Although the backup center spot had been filled by Montrezl Harrell this season, Harrell has seen his playing time decrease over the past few games including a few DNPs.
