The Pistons have exercised the team options for Jaden Ivey, Jalen Duren, Ausar Thompson and Marcus Sasser.
It would’ve been surprising if these options weren’t picked up, so this was more of a formality. All four players are important to Detroit’s future and will look to help the team be more competitive this season.
  • DET Point Guard #25
Marcus Sasser shot 6-of-14 from the field and 11-of-13 from the foul line in Friday’s 91-90 loss to the Knicks, amassing 24 points, three rebounds, five assists, and one 3-pointer in 29 minutes.
The 25th overall pick in the 2023 draft, Sasser led all scorers with 24 points in Detroit’s narrow defeat. Last season, he appeared in 71 games for the Pistons, averaging 19.0 minutes, and that number could have been higher if Detroit had not begun the year with Killian Hayes in the rotation. While Cade Cunningham is Detroit’s point guard of the present (and future), Sasser is well-positioned to earn the backup role. That isn’t a great spot to be in fantasy-wise, but he’ll have streaming value based on Cunningham’s injury history as a pro.
  • DET Point Guard #2
Cade Cunningham (left knee tendinopathy) and Jalen Duren (low back spasms) have been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Spurs.
Detroit currently has the worst record in the league, though they could lose out on the best odds if they get a win today. There is no reason for Cade or Duren to suit up, so it isn’t shocking that they’ll both remain sidelined. Marcus Sasser and James Wiseman should remain in the starting unit and take on large roles once again.
  • DET Point Guard #2
Cade Cunningham (left knee tendinopathy) is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Spurs.
Cunningham is expected to be remain sidelined for the seventh straight game, which will end his season. Marcus Sasser should continue to start alongside Jaden Ivey in the backcourt, and he is coming off two straight games with at least 20 points.
  • DET Point Guard #25
Marcus Sasser tallied 24 points (9-of-20 FGs) to go along with three rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a pair of 3-pointers in the Pistons’ game against the Mavericks on Friday.
Sasser surprisingly outshined Jaden Ivey and led Detroit in points. He’s now scored 24 points twice this season and is likely to remain a starter to close out 2023-24.
  • DET Point Guard #2
Cade Cunningham (left knee tendinopathy) has been ruled out for the Pistons’ Friday matchup against the Mavericks.
Cunningham is set to miss a sixth consecutive game on Friday. Marcus Sasser and Jaden Ivey will continue to get a fantasy boost with him out of the lineup.
  • DET Point Guard #25
Marcus Sasser played 33 minutes in Thursday’s 127-105 loss to the Bulls, tallying 20 points (8-of-15 FGs), five assists, two steals, one block, and four 3-pointers.
Due to Cade Cunningham’s recent absence, Sasser has started eight of Detroit’s last ten games. Thursday’s performance was one of his best, with the rookie hitting the 20-point mark for the first time since March 25 and dishing out five assists. Sasser’s four turnovers were suboptimal, but the overall production was solid. Backcourt partner Jaden Ivey added 16 points, two rebounds, six assists, one steal, and three 3-pointers in 31 minutes. That tandem won’t lack for minutes during Detroit’s final two games, especially if Cunningham remains sidelined.
  • DET Point Guard #2
Cade Cunningham (left knee tendinopathy) is out for Thursday’s game against the Pistons.
Cunningham will miss a fifth straight game, as there’s no need for the Pistons to rush him onto the court. Marcus Sasser will continue to start alongside Jaden Ivey, and Cunningham’s absence boosts both players’ fantasy value.
  • DET Point Guard #2
Cade Cunnigham (left knee tendinopathy) is listed as questionable ahead of the Pistons’ Thursday matchup with the Bulls.
Cunningham has been upgraded from out to questionable but has missed four straight contests. It appears like the Pistons are erring on the side of caution. Jaden Ivey and Marcus Sasser will continue to have higher fantasy value as Detroit’s starting backcourt if Cunningham is ruled out again.
  • DET Shooting Guard #23
Jaden Ivey logged 32 minutes in Tuesday’s 120-102 loss to Detroit, accounting for 25 points (8-of-17 FGs, 3-of-6 FTs), five rebounds, four assists, one block, and six 3-pointers.
Cade Cunningham has missed Detroit’s last three games, freeing up a spot in the starting lineup for Marcus Sasser and increasing Ivey’s usage. The latter led the Pistons in scoring on Tuesday, and he’s scored 25 or more in two of his last three outings. The lone issue for Ivey recently has been the turnovers, as he racked up five on Tuesday. As for Sasser, he shot 3-of-10 from the field, finishing with 10 points, three rebounds, five assists, and two 3-pointers. With the Pistons not having much need to play Cunningham, Ivey and Sasser should be the starters in the backcourt for the final three games of the regular season.
