Marcin Gortat has retired from basketball, he announced on Sunday.
Gortat, who was waived by the Clippers during last season, revealed that he was close to signing with the Lakers this past offseason, but they eventually went with Dwight Howard to replace DeMarcus Cousins. Gortat was selected with the 57th pick in the 2005 draft by the Phoenix Suns, though he would later make his NBA debut with the Magic after a trade to Orlando. Coincidentally, he was Howard’s primary backup during his years in Orlando before eventually being dealt back to Phoenix. Gortat had the best season of his career with the Suns in 2011-12. He was traded to Washington just two years later, where he had the most successful run of his career with the Wizards. Overall, Gortat played 806 games in the NBA, which is the most for any Polish-born player.

Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Lakers are considering free-agent center Marcin Gortat.
Gortat started 43 games for the Clippers last season, before being waived by the club in February. He averaged 5.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 16.0 minutes. Woj also tweeted on Tuesday that the Lakers planning individual workouts to evaluate Joakim Noah, Dwight Howard and Mo Speights this week in Los Angeles.

Marcin Gortat will be waived by the Clippers, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Moments ago, Gortat himself tweeted, “It was a great ride!” The Clippers have already lost Boban Marjanovic while they added Mike Muscala, so they’ll be thin at center besides Montrezl Harrell -- they might not be done either. This could mean the Clips give some run to Johnathan Motley, who coach Doc Rivers has praised multiple times in the last month. He would be worth a look in deeper leagues. As for Gortat, he has interest in joining the Warriors, but doesn’t have much fantasy value.

Boban Marjanovic played through a sore back on Sunday, finishing with 10 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals in 17 minutes.
Boban got hurt on Saturday and said he “really” felt it during this game. He had a heat pack on his lower back while on the bench, and the team was “monitoring” him, but it didn’t force him to leave the game. He shot 3-of-6 from the field and 4-of-5 from the line, and since some of his action came in garbage time it seems L.A. wasn’t too worried about his health. He may have overtaken Marcin Gortat in the center rotation and may be worth a speculative add in deeper leagues -- he’s burned owners multiple times already this season, of course, so don’t get too excited.
  • Montrezl Harrell had 10 points, four blocks, three rebounds, one assist and one steal in a starting role vs. Toronto on Sunday.
Harrell played 30 minutes and this may simply have been Doc Rivers playing the matchup game, as he’s done all season long. Either way, it’s not a big deal for Harrell’s fantasy owners since he’s been fantastic in a reserve role. In fact, he’s averaging more points (on higher FG%), rebounds, assists, steals and blocks as a reserve this season. Just keep him active everywhere.

Marcin Gortat was a healthy DNP-CD on Sunday.
Gortat played just four minutes on Saturday and didn’t return after the first quarter, ceding the center spot to Montrezl Harrell and Boban Marjanovic. The Clippers may be trying to rest the 34-year-old big man, but if so the timing is odd with the All-Star break looming. If you haven’t cut Gortat already, this is your cue.

Marcin Gortat is coming off the Clippers’ bench on Sunday.
It’ll be Montrezl Harrell back in the starting lineup tonight, and it’s not surprising after Gortat rode the bench for the final three quarters on Saturday.

Marcin Gortat started and moved to the bench for the second half on Saturday against the Pistons, registering one turnover and one foul.
Hopefully coach Doc Rivers just pulls the plug here, but Danilo Gallinari returning should help the first unit. Gortat is not worth owning in most leagues.

Marcin Gortat made the most of his 16 minutes Monday vs. the Hawks, scoring ten points (5-of-6 FGs) with five rebounds and one assist.
Like Boban Marjanovic, who did not play Monday, Gortat’s minutes are heavily influenced by matchups. For that reason it’s incredibly difficult to rely on his from a fantasy standpoint, whether it’s as a starter or reserve. That being said Gortat does deserve some credit for his effort Monday night, as he reached double figures in points for the second time in his last four games.

Marcin Gortat was back in L.A.'s starting lineup on Wednesday, posting 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting, eight rebounds and one assist in 23 minutes.
Gortat was a reserve the previous two games and as usual it wasn’t pretty -- he averaged 1.5 points in 6.0 minutes. Doc Rivers likes to play the matchups with his center spot but it’s unclear which way he’ll lean on Friday (at Chicago) and Sunday (vs. Sacramento). It won’t matter much for fantasy -- Gortat is a non-entity when coming off the bench and not much better with a starting job.
