The Hawks will be promoting assistant GM Landy Fields to the title of General Manager on July 1, according to sources of Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Fields spent five years in the NBA, retiring in 2015, and then he went straight into front office work with his first gig coming as an assistant GM to the Spurs’ G League affiliate. He was later hired by Travis Schlenk of the Hawks in an assistant GM role with Atlanta, and he’ll now continue his ascent within the Hawks organization, still working under the man who initially brought him on. For what it’s worth, Woj is also reporting that the Hawks are expected to be “one of the most active teams” in trade talks ahead of the June 23 draft and free agency in July.

  • ATL Shooting Guard #2
Landry Fields was 1-of-6 for two points and three assists in 20 minutes of Wednesday’s win over the Cavaliers.
Fields has really cooled off over his last two games, totaling 10 points on 5-of-15 shooting, but had scored in double figures in the three games prior. Consider this a slump, but it’s also not a coincidence that Carmelo Anthony is back to form, J.R. Smith is getting heavy minutes off the bench, and Iman Shumpert returned from a knee injury tonight. It’s simply too crowded at the wing positions in New York, and we’d look to drop Fields for a hot free agent now that they’re all healthy.
  • NBA Shooting Guard #21
J.R. Smith came off the bench for nine points and no 3-pointers on 3-of-7 shooting in Wednesday’s win.
He did have a monster alley-oop dunk, courtesy of Jeremy Lin from 40 feet with the game in hand, but never got it going tonight. The reality of the situation is that Smith is more likely to hurt the fantasy value of Landry Fields and Iman Shumpert than he is to offer a ton of it on his own account. The three will likely trade off big games, and while Smith has the potential to go crazy on any given night, all of them will be too inconsistent to be relied upon on a weekly basis.
  • NBA Shooting Guard #21
Iman Shumpert returned from his knee injury Wednesday and had 12 points and three steals in 22 minutes.
Shumpert, Landry Fields and J.R. Smith are all going to share minutes going forward, meaning all of them are going to take a fantasy hit when healthy.
  • NBA Shooting Guard #21
Iman Shumpert hurt his left knee and needed to be carried into the Knicks’ locker room during Game 1 on Saturday.
Tests will surely be forthcoming, and after watching Derrick Rose go down, this is one depressing afternoon of playoff basketball. We’ll update Shumpert’s status once more is known -- keep your fingers crossed.
  • NBA Shooting Guard #21
Iman Shumpert has been diagnosed with a torn ACL in his left knee, and he’s expected to miss 6-8 months.
Shumpert’s terrific rookie season ends on a very disappointing note, and this injury decimates New York’s odds of upsetting the Heat. Shumpert averaged 9.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 steals in just 29 minutes per game this season. Hopefully he’ll make a full recovery in time for training camp.
  • ATL Shooting Guard #2
Landry Fields will start at shooting guard in Monday’s Game 2 against the Heat.
Fields takes the place of Iman Shumpert (torn ACL). It’s a major downgrade for the Knicks defensively as they try to match up with Dwyane Wade and LeBron James on the wings.
  • ATL Shooting Guard #2
Landry Fields scored 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting (no threes) with four rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block in 28 minutes on Monday.
Fields has posted some useful lines lately but we’re still concerned about the log-jam and general disarray in New York. Give him a look, but don’t add him expecting a consistent result.
  • ATL Shooting Guard #2
Landry Fields hit 5-of-8 shots for 15 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals, a block and two 3-pointers in Tuesday’s loss.
This is one of Fields’ better games in recent memory, but it’s also worth noting that Iman Shumpert and J.R. Smith struggled. We’d still rather own Shumpert or Smith over Fields for now. Smith finished with 11 points and nine rebounds on 3-of-11 shooting, and played 29 minutes in the loss, while Shumpert had five points and nothing else for the night.
  • NYK Point Guard
Baron Davis is battling hamstring, knee and back injuries and head coach Mike Woodson has said he wants to limit him to no more than 25-26 minutes per game.
With B-Diddy on the minutes limit, Iman Shumpert and Landry Fields continue to be better fantasy plays for those needing to start Knicks guards down the stretch.
