Despite receiving interest from multiple Europe-based teams, free agent guard Killian Hayes is focused on earning another NBA opportunity.
Hayes, the 7th overall pick in the 2020 draft, struggled for most of his four years in Detroit before appearing in six games with the Nets last season. Due to Brooklyn’s many injuries, he started five of the six games he appeared in, averaging 9.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 27.2 minutes. According to BeBasket’s Gabriel Pantel-Jouve, Hayes is focused on landing another NBA opportunity despite receiving interest from multiple Europe-based clubs, which included an offer from ASVEL that the guard rejected. Hayes is no longer eligible for a two-way contract, so he must earn a standard contract to stick in the NBA for the 2025-26 season.

Nets didn’t sign Killian Hayes to a second 10-day contract.
Hayes was able to play six games in 10 days for Brooklyn and averaged nine points, three rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.3 three-pointers per game. He had a pair of excellent performances against the Thunder and Trail Blazers, but he struggled in his return to Detroit on Saturday. Hayes will now be a free agent, and he may be able to find another team to suit up for as the regular season winds down. However, until that happens, managers should leave him on the waiver wire.

Killian Hayes finished Saturday’s loss to the Pistons with four points (1-of-6 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), three rebounds, three assists and one steal in 23 minutes.
On the final day of his 10-day contract, Hayes returned to the city where his NBA career began. The former lottery pick struggled against the team that drafted him, shooting 1-of-6 from the field while providing modest production in the rebound and assist categories. The Nets will have a decision to make regarding Killian. The health of D’Angelo Russell will likely influence the Nets’ decision regarding Hayes. Reece Beekman (3/1/1/3 in 26 minutes) may figure more prominently in the bench rotation if the Nets do not re-sign Hayes and Russell remains out.

Killian Hayes finished Wednesday’s loss to the Thunder with 19 points (7-of-13 FGs), two rebounds, seven assists and five three-pointers in 34 minutes.
Currently on a 10-day contract, Hayes has his best game as a Net on Wednesday. The 7-of-13 night from the field included Hayes shooting 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. He’s a career 27.6 percent shooter from three, so fantasy managers need to keep this night in perspective. However, Wednesday’s performance may improve Hayes’ chances of getting a second 10-day, especially if D’Angelo Russell (ankle) remains out.

Killian Hayes started again on Monday and finished with seven points (2-of-7 FGs), three rebounds, eight assists, two steals, one block and one three-pointer against the Wizards.
With D’Angelo Russell out for a second straight game, Hayes remained in the starting unit once again. He signed a 10-day contract with Brooklyn on February 19, which should allow him to play at least two more games with the Nets, though they could certainly sign him to another 10-day deal. Through two starts, Hayes has been a reliable source of assists, but he hasn’t been able to provide much else. He can be a decent streaming option for managers that are looking for a boost in dimes, but he should only be considered in deep leagues.

Killian Hayes shot 1-of-3 from the field and 1-of-2 from the foul line in Saturday’s win over the 76ers, scoring three points with four rebounds, six assists and one blocked shot in 27 minutes.
With D’Angelo Russell (ankle) out, Hayes made his first start as a Net on Saturday. While he did dish out six assists, the 2020 lottery pick was not on the court in crunch time, with Nets coach Jordi Fernandez preferring to have Trendon Watford in the lineup. That said, Russell has already been ruled out for Monday’s game against the Wizards and does not have a timeline for return. At a minimum, Hayes may get another opportunity to start before his 10-day contract expires. There’s no need to consider rostering him, as there are eight games on Monday’s slate.
  • BKN Point Guard #4
Killian Hayes, Keon Johnson, Ziaire Williams, Cameron Johnson, and Nic Claxton will start Saturday’s game against the 76ers.
The Nets will be without D’Angelo Russell for the next two games, as he sprained his ankle during Thursday’s loss to the Cavaliers. As a result, Hayes will make his first start as a Net, and he could remain in that role for Monday’s game against the Wizards (Russell has already been ruled out for that contest). Brooklyn’s other four starters are unchanged.

D’Angelo Russell (ankle) will be re-evaluated after Monday’s game against the Wizards.
Already ruled out for Saturday’s game against the 76ers with a sprained ankle, Russell will also miss Monday’s matchup with the Wizards. His status will be re-assessed after that game, so the Nets point guard may be looking at an extended absence. Recently signed to a 10-day contract, Killian Hayes can absorb most of the minutes that would have gone to Russell. However, he isn’t worth the streaming risk in most leagues.

D’Angelo Russell (ankle) has been ruled out against the 76ers on Saturday.
Russell exited early from Thursday’s loss to Cleveland and will remain sidelined for at least one more game. Brooklyn recently signed Killian Hayes to a 10-day contract, and he made his debut for the team on Thursday, finishing with five points and three assists in 21 minutes off the bench. He may get the chance to slide into the starting unit in place of Russell, but his fantasy impact will be minimal.
  • BKN Point Guard #1
D’Angelo Russell (ankle) exited early on Thursday and finished with just three points (1-of-7 FGs), five assists and one three-pointer against the Cavaliers.
A right ankle sprain ended Russell’s night prematurely, but he was still ineffective in his 18 minutes on the floor. The Nets play their next game in Philadelphia on Saturday, and if Russell remains out, there will be an opening in the starting lineup at point guard. Killian Hayes, who recently signed a 10-day deal with Brooklyn, logged 21 minutes in this game and finished with five points, one rebound, three assists and one block. He will have a chance to fill the void if Russell is out, but he will be a risky streaming option.
