The Spurs have selected Juan Núñez with the No. 36 pick in the draft.
The 20-year-old point guard from Spain spent the last two seasons with Ratiopharm Ulm in Germany, where he averaged 10.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.9 steals in 25.9 minutes per game across 14 games last year. The steal numbers were nice, but he isn’t a great defender, and his offensive game is limited aside from his playmaking. He can orchestrate an offense, but he wasn’t able to do much else consistently during his two professional seasons in Germany. He may be a reliable backup point guard, but his upside will be dependent on him developing other facets of his game. San Antonio already selected Stephon Castle and still has Tre Jones, and now they are adding another point guard that has strong playmaking skills. He may end up as a draft-and-stash, so it is unclear if he will play in the NBA next season. This was originally Indiana’s pick, but they traded 36 and cash in exchange for pick 35.
