Jose Alvarado tallied 19 points (6-of-14 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), five rebounds, six assists, one blocked shot, and six 3-pointers in 23 minutes in Friday’s win over Utah.
When he wasn’t mixing it up with Jazz rookie Isaiah Collier, Alvarado was knocking down 3-pointers on Friday. He made six, one shy of his season-high, and the Pelicans’ backup point guard has knocked down three or more in four of his last five outings. That hasn’t been enough to make Alvarado a reliable player to have rostered in most fantasy leagues, but he’ll have value whenever the Pelicans are down one of their two starting guards.
  • NOP Point Guard #5
Dejounte Murray (right elbow tendonitis, right shin contusion) is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Celtics.
Murray was also questionable for Friday’s game against Philadelphia, but he played 32 minutes in the eight-point Pelicans win. Fantasy managers should expect the New Orleans point guard to be on the court Sunday evening, taking on his usual responsibilities. However, if Murray cannot play, Jose Alvarado will be asked to fill the void.
  • NOP Small Forward #2
Herb Jones (right shoulder strain) and Trey Murphy III (left ankle sprain) have been ruled out of Friday’s matchup with the 76ers.
Jones left Wednesday’s matchup with Portland early due to the injury, and he’ll be out for at least one game. Murphy III will miss a third straight game, and with Brandon Ingram out and Dejounte Murray questionable, guys like Brandon Boston Jr., Jose Alvarado and Jordan Hawkins will be relied on to step up. Zion Williamson is off the injury report, and he could see substantial usage as well.
  • NOP Point Guard #5
Dejounte Murray (right elbow soreness) is listed as questionable for Wednesday’s Pelicans-Trail Blazers games
Murray is on the injury report after scoring 29 points his last time out. The Pelicans point guard could be replaced by Jose Alvarado or Jordan Hawkins if he’s ruled out.
  • NOP Point Guard #15
Jose Alvarado (left hamstring strain) is available for Friday’s game against the Wizards.
Alvarado will play in a game for the first time since November 11, giving the Pelicans added depth on the perimeter. Given the time missed, fantasy managers should not expect too much from Alvarado immediately. Brandon Boston Jr. will likely lose out on playing time.
  • NOP Point Guard #15
According to Pelicans reporter Will Guillory, Jose Alvarado says he’ll return Friday against Washington.
Alvarado hasn’t played since November 11, but he’s set to make his return following a 23-game absence. With the Pels still banged up at key positions, Alvarado could see meaningful minutes off the bench as soon as he has ramped back up to game speed.
  • NOP Point Guard #15
Jose Alvarado (left hamstring strain) is out for Wednesday’s game against Miami.
Alvarado is still not ready to return from his hamstring injury suffered in early November. Dejounte Murray and CJ McCollum are healthy, so his continued absence does not significantly impact fantasy basketball.
  • NOP Point Guard #15
Jose Alvarado (left hamstring strain) is doubtful for Wednesday’s game against the Heat.
Alvarado returned to practice last week and is nearing a return to the court, though it doesn’t appear likely that he’ll be back Wednesday. His eventual return will cut into Brandon Boston Jr.'s minutes off the bench.
  • NOP Point Guard #15
Jose Alvarado is expected to return to practice next week and is considered week-to-week.
Alvarado last played on November 11, but he’s nearing a return to action. We should get a better update on his status once he starts practicing again.
  • NOP Point Guard #15
Jose Alvarado (left hamstring strain) is progressing in his recovery and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
Alvarado has been sidelined since early November, and he’s unlikely to return until just before Christmas. The good news for the Pelicans is that the recent returns of Dejounte Murray and CJ McCollum have bolstered their depth on the perimeter. Those two will continue to handle most of the playmaking responsibilities, with Brandon Boston Jr. coming off the bench.
