When Jimmie “Snap” Hunter signs with the Pacers this week, they’ll have 16 players under contract while still trying to land a 17th in Al Harrington. The most they can have to start the season is 15.
It was initially believed the Pacers would release Rawle Marshall and Josh Powell, who were acquired in the Anthony Johnson trade, but they are having second thoughts. Marshall’s contract becomes guaranteed for next season if he’s still on the Pacers’ roster after Aug. 7 and Powell’s becomes guaranteed if he’s on the roster after Oct. 1. Only $100,000 of Hunter’s contract will be guaranteed, so he’s still a bit of a longshot to be on roster this year, and Powell isn’t likely to make the final cut either.
