Grant remains day-to-day.

Grant, who is on the IL with torn cartilage in his hip, faces an uphill battle.

Grant wants to play again this season, but it’s looking like he’ll rest until the playoffs at least.

Grant may have played his last regular season game. His goal is to be healthy for the playoffs.

Grant intends to have surgery after the season to repair a tear in the labrum of his hip.

Grant still has too much pain in his hip to allow him to attempt to play. Coach Phil Jackson said he had become “decidedly pessimistic” about having Grant for the playoffs.

It appears certain that Grant won’t return for the playoffs.

Grant notified the Lakers on Sunday morning that he’d left. No word on his return. With Karl Malone and Shaquille O’Neal out, the Lakers frontcourt against Cleveland could be Devean George, Slava Medvedenko, and Jamal Sampson. Luke Walton and Brian Cook are also seeing action while the Laker big men heal.

The Lakers are giving Grant as much time as he needs to be with his father.

Grant has missed three games to be with his father, and will miss two more before Saturday.
