Gordon Hayward, 34, announced Thursday that his playing career is officially coming to a close after 14 NBA seasons.
Hayward resurrected his career with the Charlotte Hornets after suffering a career-threatening leg injury with the Boston Celtics, but ultimately hasn’t been able to stay healthy enough to stay on the court in recent years. He thrived as an elite fantasy option at small forward during his prime and peaked in 2016-17 when he averaged 21.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists during his final season with the Utah Jazz.
  • OKC Shooting Guard #21
Aaron Wiggins accumulated 14 points (5-of-8 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), six rebounds, one steal, and two 3-pointers in 18 minutes in Sunday’s win over Dallas.
With Sunday’s game turning into a laugher by halftime, no Thunder players logged more than 22 minutes (Gordon Hayward). Wiggins made good use of his 18 minutes, hitting his two 3-point attempts and scoring 14 points. He’s reached double figures in two straight and three of his last five games. Oklahoma City has multiple bench wings it can call on for offense, including Wiggins, and those players will need to step up during the playoffs. Hayward (10/4/2) and Cason Wallace (12/2/1/0/1 with two 3-pointers) also reached double figures for the Thunder, who will be the 1-seed in the West.
  • OKC Shooting Guard #3
Josh Giddey (right hip contusion) is not on the injury report for Sunday’s game against Dallas.
Giddey sat out on Friday, but he should return to the starting unit for Sunday’s game. Gordon Hayward will be pushed to the bench, while Cason Wallace, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins may lose out on a few minutes.
  • OKC Small Forward #33
The Thunder will start Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Lu Dort, Gordon Hayward, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren against the Bucks on Friday.
Hayward gets the starting nod in place of Josh Giddey, who is sidelined due to a right hip contusion. Cason Wallace, Aaron Wiggins and Isaiah Joe will all see a few extra minutes off the bench, but Hayward should be in for a solid night after scoring 18 points off the bench in their last game.
  • OKC Small Forward #33
Gordon Hayward provided a boost off the bench with 18 points (6-of-8 FGs), one rebound, one steal and two triples against the Spurs on Wednesday.
Hayward missed their last two games with a leg issue, but he was back in the lineup for Wednesday’s game. He has been a solid bench piece for the Thunder since they traded for him, but this was his highest-scoring game since he joined his new squad. Hayward isn’t a player to consider rostering in fantasy, but he will be an important veteran presence for a young Thunder team that is hoping to make some noise in the playoffs. He should be available for their final two games of the regular season before they get a week off to prepare for their first round matchup.
  • OKC Small Forward #33
Gordon Hayward (left posterior tibialis strain) and Jaylin Williamson (low back contusion) are available for Wednesday’s game against the Spurs.
Hayward and Wiliams are available, with the former returning after a two-game absence. Both will come off the bench, limiting their value in active fantasy leagues. Feel free to leave them on the waiver wire.
  • OKC Small Forward #33
Gordon Hayward (left posterior tibialis strain) and Jaylin Williams (low back contusion) are questionable to play against the Spurs on Wednesday.
Both reserves are questionable to play in this game, with Hayward having missed their last two games. He started the last time he suited up, but with the rest of their starting unit available, he will likely come off the bench if he returns. If Williams sits out, Mike Muscala will likely fill out the backup center minutes, but none of these players are intriguing streaming options.
  • OKC Small Forward #33
Gordon Hayward (left posterior tibialis strain) is out for Tuesday’s game against the Kings.
Hayward will miss a second straight game after being forced to exit Friday’s loss to the Pacers. The veteran wing, who started for Jalen Williams (ankle) was limited to 13 minutes before being shut down. By itself, Hayward’s status does not impact fantasy basketball. But it would mean even more playing time for Aaron Wiggins, Isaiah Joe, or Kenrich Williams if Jalen Williams remains sidelined.
  • OKC Small Forward #8
Jalen Williams (left ankle sprain) and Gordon Hayward (left posterior tibialis strain) have been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Hornets.
With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (quad) already sidelined, the Thunder will be without two starters due to Williams’ absence. Among the options to fill the voids are Aaron Wiggins, Cason Wallace, Isaiah Joe, and Kenrich Williams. The players selected will have a higher fantasy upside, with Wiggins and Joe worth a look for managers targeting 3-pointers. As for Hayward, his absence means one less option for Mark Daigneault to choose from on the wing.
  • OKC Small Forward #33
Gordon Hayward (lower left leg soreness) has been ruled out for the remainder of Friday’s game against the Pacers.
Hayward played 13 minutes in the first half, starting for the injured Jalen Williams. He finished with seven points and one steal. Kenrich Williams started the second half and would be in for additional minutes if the Thunder are forced to play without Hayward and JDub.
