Fred VanVleet is questionable against Denver on Saturday due to lingering knee soreness.
FVV missed five straight with the injury and has played each of the Raptors’ last two games. His right knee is apparently still bothering him, so if he’s forced to sit out, Dalano Banton or Chris Boucher could slide into the starting lineup. Gary Trent -- who scored 42 on Friday -- could be asked to take on a bigger role on offense in VanVleet’s absence.

  • HOU Point Guard #5
Fred VanVleet (right knee) has been ruled out for Tuesday’s contest vs. the Hornets.
With FVV on the shelf, Dalano Banton could slide into the starting lineup. Pascal Siakam and Gary Trent Jr. will both see a bump in usage and could have a monster game.

  • FA Point Guard #18
Malachi Flynn had 16 points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals in a win against the Spurs Wednesday night.
Flynn played 32 minutes and was the only point guard active for this game versus San Antonio. He didn’t shoot the ball well going 4-of-15 from the field but he did manage to make three 3-pointers. Flynn has proven when given minutes he can be productive, Kyle Lowry (rest) and Fred VanVleet (suspension) will return soon and he’ll be back to a reserve role. However the biggest thing working in Flynn’s favor is the absence of Norman Powell (traded) and Gary Trent Jr. (injury), so don’t be surprised if he remains relevant, especially if the Raptors fail to get back into the playoff hunt in the East.

Coach Flip Saunders said Gary Trent, who didn’t play the past two games, should be at 100 percent tonight.
Trent has battled a virus the past week and a half.
  • NBA Center #21
Hassan Whiteside (right hip tendinosis) said he will not play vs. the Cavs on Saturday.
Whiteside did not play vs. the Bucks on Thursday and was listed as questionable on the injury report for Saturday’s contest. Gary Trent made a spot start on Thursday, but it was Skal Labissiere who was the primary beneficiary of Whiteside’s absence. Skal logged 28 minutes off the bench, blocking a career-high five shots while also tallying 22 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, one steal and two 3-pointers. He will be a very popular DFS and streaming option on Saturday night.

Bulls officially will announce Gary Trent’s release later this week.
Trent was signed to a one-year contract just over a week ago, but league sources indicated the team asked him to leave over the weekend and then explained his absence was for “personal reasons.” The question in Chicago now is whether the Bulls will also be willing to eat the $14 million remaining on Eddie Robinson’s contract to improve the overall health and chemistry of the team.
  • CHI Power Forward
Bulls signed forward Gart Trent to a one-year contract.
It’s a non-guaranteed deal. If the rest of the Bulls’ big men make it through camp healthy, Trent might be set free.
  • CHI Power Forward
Bulls waived forward Gary Trent and center Cezary Trybanski.
Trent is worthy of a spot on some team’s bench, but the Bulls quickly soured on him. Trybanski was one of the players acquired from the Knicks in the Jamal Crawford.
  • CHI Power Forward
Gary Trent, frustrated with his on-and-off usage by the Wolves, expressed himself this week, saying, ''coaches are talking to you, being active, showing interest. Then it’s, ‘OK, so-and-so is back from his injury, to hell with you.’''
Trent (6.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg in 17.8 minutes) isn’t the first big man to let out frustration at the way Minnesota has used him. Loren Woods let his feelings boil to the point where he got suspended, and Marc Jackson had similar complaints last season. Part of the problem has been communication, part has been injuries to Wally Szczerbiak and Joe Smith. If those two had been healthy all year, Woods, Trent and everyone else would already know their roles.
  • CHI Power Forward
Free-agent forward Gary Trent has agreed to terms with the Timberwolves, his agent, Andy Miller, said Tuesday.
Trent will battle Mark Madsen for minutes behind Kevin Garnett at power forward.
