  • Fabricio Oberto is set to sign with Atenas de Cordoba in Argentina.
Oberto wants to get his conditioning in order to prepare for the London Olympics. He last played in the NBA with the Trail Blazers in 2010 before retiring due to a heart condition.
  • The Bulls have reportedly offered Fabricio Oberto a contract to play this season.
Oberto’s agent said that it’s up to his client as to whether or not he wants to play, but we’ll take this report with a grain of salt. Oberto was delaying his retirement until January and was set to sign overseas earlier this month, so we’ll have to wait to see if Oberto will continue playing.
  • Fabricio Oberto is delaying his retirement decision until January.
Oberto retired last year due to a heart condition, but said he’s working out and might attempt a comeback if the lockout is lifted. The salty veteran could probably find a spot on a roster for the veteran’s minimum.
  • Fabricio Oberto returned to action tonight from a sprained ankle.
He had six boards in 11 minutes, but failed to score.
  • Fabricio Oberto got a first-hand feel for guarding Shaquille O’Neal on Monday, and how he’ll miss several preseason games because of a sprained ankle, courtesy of Shaq.
“I was in front of him and when I tried to turn around, he touched me with his body and I (lost) a little balance,” Oberto said. “It was a very unfortunate move for me.” He’ll probably miss the Spurs next three preseason games with the injury.
  • Spurs signed power forward Fabricio Oberto.
The 30-year-old forward played on the Argentian Olympic team last year with Manu Ginobili and has played in Europe since 1993. He averaged 14.2 points and 7.3 rebounds for Pamesa Valencia in 2004-05 and led the Spanish League by shooting 65.4 percent from the floor. He will definitely see some time at forward backing up Tim Duncan this year.
  • While we’ve mostly ignored Spurs’ center Fabricio Oberto thus far, he capped off a great series against the Jazz with a start and seven points, 10 rebounds and a block as the Spurs blew out the Jazz in Game 5 to win the series 4-1 and advance to the NBA Finals.
Oberto averaged 10 points and eight rebounds in the series as Francisco Elson became an afterthought. Oberto will likely continue to start for the Spurs in the Finals.
  • According to ESPN.com, Fabricio Oberto has declined a player option on his contract and will become a restricted free agent.
Oberto would have earned $2.5 million had he decided to stick around. The 32-year-old from Argentina averaged 5.6 points and 4.9 boards while starting 12 of the Spurs’ 20 playoff games on the way to the championship. The Spurs are still hoping to bring him back.
  • FA Center #17
The Memphis Grizzlies are said to be looking for a rebounding power forward and are interested in Anderson Varejao.
Varejao is a restricted free agent for the Cavaliers and may be tough to get out of Cleveland. They also have their eyes on free agents Fabricio Oberto, Darko Milicic, Mikki Moore and Jamaal Magloire. “We’re going after a significant big man,” Griz owner Michael Heisley said. “We understand the target, and we’ll see if we can get the player.”
  • Fabricio Oberto’s agent said Sunday he is nearing an agreement for the free-agent center to return to the Spurs.
“He’s made it clear he doesn’t want to play anywhere else, and everybody knows that,” Herb Rudoy said. “We’re going to get it done — probably early this week.” Oberto opted out of the third and final year of his contract that would pay him $2.5 million this year, but his intention all along has been to stay with the Spurs. And they intend on keeping him.
