Derrick Brown will start Friday’s game against the Bucks, sending Reggie Williams to the bench.
We’re asking owners to take a wait-and-see approach with this game, for one because the Bobcats are a very fluid fantasy team right now and for two because the Bucks changed their lineup drastically tonight. The Bucks will be running a very small lineups, so we’ll see if the Bobcats have it in them to oblige and help the box score get filled.
  • SAS Small Forward
Derrick Brown started for injured Reggie Williams (knee) and neared a double-double in Friday’s loss, scoring 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting with nine rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 34 minutes.
Brown did well in the minutes that were provided, but it’s possible that Corey Maggette and/or Williams return to kill his value. If you need spot-help, give him a look, but anything beyond that is asking for too much at this time.
  • SAS Small Forward
Derrick Brown had 12 points, six rebounds and a steal on 5-of-7 shooting in 31 minutes of Tuesday’s loss.
He had a similar line about a week ago, but really struggled in between the good games. Keep an eye on him in case Reggie Williams continues to struggle, but we doubt Brown will be worth picking up in fantasy leagues this season.
  • NOP Shooting Guard #5
Reggie Williams hit 4-of-12 shots and a 3-pointer for 10 points, one rebound and four assists in 34 minutes of Wednesday’s loss.
He’s struggled in his last two starts for Corey Maggette, but the minutes are there, and the production should follow. Derrick Brown has played pretty well in two straight, and had 11 points, four boards and a 3-pointer tonight, but Williams is the guy to own as long as he keeps starting for the injured Maggette.
  • SAS Small Forward
Derrick Brown scored 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting (5-of-10 from the foul line) with nine rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 35 minutes on Friday against the Heat.
Brown may have benefited a bit from D.J. White’s exit due to a headache, but owners should give Brown a look, regardless. We’re not expecting huge things from him, and he has been plenty inconsistent, but the minutes are seemingly there and that gives him a fighting chance.
  • SAS Small Forward
Derrick Brown had 16 points, five rebounds and two steals on 6-of-11 shooting on Wednesday, but left the game late with a sprained right ankle.
Brown’s ankle has been a mess for a couple weeks now, and he could miss Thursday’s finale against the Knicks with the injury. The Bobcats lost for the 22nd straight time tonight, and will finish with the worst winning percentage in NBA history if they can’t beat the Knicks tomorrow. Tyrus Thomas is a potential starter if Brown can’t go.
  • MEM Power Forward #13
Tyrus Thomas had 13 points, five rebounds, a steal and a block in Wednesday’s loss.
He suffered a hip injury after falling on a chair in the front row, but stayed in the game. If Derrick Brown’s ankle injury keeps him out of Thursday’s finale, it’s conceivable that Thomas could start in that one.
  • OKC Center #15
Bismack Biyombo left Thursday’s game during the third quarter with an apparent ankle injury, but got it re-taped in the locker room and eventually returned.
That’s the good news, but the bad news is that the Bobcats might be the worst NBA team we’ve seen in 10 years. Their awfulness impacts every player in a Charlotte jersey across the board.
  • SAS Small Forward
Derrick Brown scored 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting (including a three) with five rebounds and three assists in 36 minutes on Thursday.
Brown has been very inconsistent and he’s only worth a look in deeper formats, at best. Backup D.J. White is further down the food chain, and posted 12 points with four rebounds and two assists in 30 minutes off the bench tonight.
  • SAS Small Forward #14
Corey Maggette (Achilles) will not play again this season.
Maggette is done for the year, Paul Silas revealed at shootaround on Thursday. He has missed 24 games this season due to various injuries and will now be sidelined for the remainder of the season. Derrick Brown, Matt Carroll and Reggie Williams (when healthy) will all see an increase in minutes.
